About Minitab

Minitab is a cloud-based statistical tool designed to help small to large organizations across various verticals such as manufacturing, healthcare, energy, automotive or non-profit discover market trends, predict patterns and visualize data. Features include statistical modeling, data sharing, time series, simulations and distributions.

Using t-tests, one and two proportions hypothesis, normality tests, chi-square and equivalence tests, professionals can generate improved processes for designing products. Minitab enables data scientists to forecast business results through classification and regression Trees (CART) logistic regression, factor analysis and cluster variables. Engineers can gain insights using different graphical outputs including scatterplots, bubble plots, box plots and histograms. It comes with an assistant feature, which guides users through the entire analysis process and interprets results by summary, diagnostic or report cards.

Minitab offers both single-user and multi-user licensing on an annual or one-time basis and support is provided via phone and documentation.

Minitab: Letting Data Drive Successful Production Excellence

I have found Minitab to be overwhelmingly, without a doubt, positive. Such confidence is instilled in our continuous improvement initiatives with the software’s reliability to handle large datasets and produce accurate results.

Pros:

Minitab's Assistant feature distinguishes it for taking the statistical analysis by the hand to depict non-stats folk exactly what to do, step by step, for often involved statistical concepts. This is especially useful in a production environment where engineers might have little statistical background. Minitab has another distinctive feature, namely a powerful Design of Experiments (DOE) kit.

Cons:

Minitab does a great job with the statistical analysis but could do better with data visualization. Better communication of complex findings to less knowledgeable users, such as customers or managers, would be more customizable and interactive charts.

Reasons for switching to Minitab

We switched to Minitab from SPSS, which we had been using for several years. While SPSS is a capable statistical package, we found it less intuitive for our production-specific needs.

Better than Excel and does what I need

Good, I really enjoying using it and think it is one of the best packages for stats out there. It does the job well enough for what I need.

Pros:

It is very easy to use and offers a lot of functionality relative to complexity. Can do all the statistical tests and in particular it can create clean and simple graphs.

Cons:

Sometimes analysing large amounts of data, e.g. many variables, is not easily automated and requires a lot of steps to process and then run analyses in many separate tabs, which can be hard to track.

I was more familiar with Minitab prior to using it.

It wasn't powerful enough to do what I needed, I needed to do more stats tests and also make better graphs

Licence is a joke

MT is not complying with the earlier licences given as (for them) they have been too cheap, not they changed the behaviour and just cancel licences (so as they just delete username and passwords for their system)

I like Minitab after all, work is much faster. Also asistent is very good for people who does not understand to statistics deeply (or do not have time to study it) but need quick result with explenation

Minitab Overview

I am using minitab for the last 30 years and they are excellent at providing an effective product and efficient service for routine FAQ. Only criticism is they should be conscious that there are many legacy files that company need to revisit at times and should be able to open regardless of how old the file is.

It is an excellent tool to teach Lean Six Sigma and basic statistics across all sectors and it has an excellent ecosphere.

Cons:

License upgrades that make historical files redundant. We upgrade our minitab licenses routinely but should be worried about legacy clients looking for us to fixed the old minitab files.

Minitab - A complete Quality statistical analysis tools - User friendly

I'm experienced in Minitab: I have started using it in the early 1994 Used it for may ASQ American Society for Quality, during my Six sigma Black belt certification, 2008 (The rate was about 500$-US) I was one of the ASQ Quality press reviewer of the published book: Applied Statistics Manual: A Guide to Improving and Sustaining Quality with Minitab. Cons:

Cost licencing is crowing faster I have started using it in the early 1992 it was about 400. ITL (lira Italian)

Reliable Tool for Data-Driven Quality Improvement

Overall, my experience with Minitab has been quite positive. It’s reliable and gets the job done when it comes to data analysis and quality improvement. Once you get the hang of the interface, it’s smooth sailing. I’ve used it mainly for Six Sigma and root cause analysis, and it’s been a great support tool in driving process decisions. Definitely a good fit for structured statistical work.

What I liked most about Minitab is how easy it makes statistical analysis, even for someone who’s not a data expert. The Assistant tool is a big help in guiding you through tests step by step. It’s also great for quality projects — I’ve used it for control charts and regression, and it just works. The clean visuals and Excel compatibility are a bonus.

Cons:

While Minitab is solid for standard statistical tasks, it can feel restrictive if you need more customization or want to automate workflows. Some features seem buried in menus, making them hard to find at first. Also, the pricing feels steep, especially for teams that only use it occasionally or for basic analysis.

Reasons for switching to Minitab

I made the switch to Python with Spyder because I needed more flexibility than Minitab could offer. With Python, I can automate repetitive tasks, handle larger datasets, and go beyond standard statistical tools. Spyder felt familiar because of its MATLAB-like layout, which made the transition easier. Plus, it’s open-source, so I’m not tied to costly licenses — that was a big win for our team

The Gold Standard for Six Sigma, But Needs Cloud Modernization

My overall experience with Minitab is very positive as it is the unmatched industry standard for reliability and ease of use in statistical quality control (Six Sigma, DOE). It makes complex, robust analysis accessible to non-statisticians. However, the experience is hindered by two main drawbacks: High Cost: The licensing model significantly impacts its Value for Money. Integration Gaps: The need for better, more modern Cloud Integrations and dynamic Data Dashboards to streamline data flow and reporting from external sources. In short, it is a powerful, essential tool that needs to improve its pricing structure and modern connectivity.

What I like most about Minitab is its unparalleled ability to make complex statistical analysis accessible and practical, even for non-statisticians. It strikes a perfect balance between statistical robustness and a user-friendly interface.

Cons:

What I like least about Minitab is the constraint imposed by its licensing model, which significantly impacts its overall Value for Money. While the software is excellent, the annual subscription cost (or the structure of network licenses) is often prohibitively high, making it a challenging investment for small to medium-sized consulting firms or individual users. I would greatly appreciate a more flexible, tiered pricing structure that aligns better with usage volume. Additionally, the software could be improved in two key areas: Cloud Integrations: Getting data into Minitab from various modern cloud data sources (e.g., non-Excel cloud repositories) is often manual and cumbersome. More seamless, built-in cloud integrations are needed to streamline the data preparation process. Dashboard and Reporting Limitations: The Data Dashboards and built-in reporting features, while useful, feel less dynamic and customizable compared to dedicated Business Intelligence tools. Enhancing the interactivity and visual capabilities of the reporting output would make it much easier to share insights with non-technical stakeholders.

Minitab - A Great Companion for Process Improvement Projects

This is a unique tool in the toolbox. I use it almost everyday for continuous improvements. I am now learning how to use the predictive tools. I highly recommend this product.

It is the most user friendly statistical software I have ever used for continuous improvement projects. A great value for the money.

Cons:

I find the spread sheets a little cumbersome to use compared to Excel. However, exporting data to Excel is a viable option, so it is not a show stopper.
