Great tool for dashboard interactivity

The support during implementation and PowerBI report creation has been very good.

Pros:

We have had good feedback from users for our initial purposes of storing user comments within a PowerBI report.

Cons:

Since Insight acquired PowerON, they have been more focused on upselling and less focused on customer service and success.

Perfect for Excel-like planning within Power BI

Very much liked by the demand planners as it provides excel-like features embedded into Power BI and it's easy to adapt.

Pros:

User-friendliness, Excel-like features and simplified integration in relational databases are the most liked things in our organization.

Cons:

It has a learning curve as a developer but it gets easier with time. For performance, we have to limit screens to 3000 rows at once.

Great Solution for Interactivity and Customization in BI Solutions

Overall, as a 5+ year customer of PowerON, the toolset has really met our team's needs and brought a level of functionality to our dashboards that we were unable to find anywhere else in the marketplace. I would recommend using PowerON's tools if you are looking to bring an extra aspect of functionality, customization, or interactivity to your BI solutions.

PowerON offers a great suite of tools to bring extra interactivity and functionality to your BI dashboards. It has eliminated the need for manual tracking in spreadsheets and has created a better user experience for several different use cases. The team at InsightSoftware is extremely responsive and supportive in helping you build out new solutions with their tools.

Cons:

At times, we've had slight issues with performance and speed of the solution, but that is to be expected with any direct query style visuals that have as much capability as these visuals.

Reasons for switching to Power ON

Switched from QlikSense where we had a custom writeback solution to Power BI where we needed a different writeback solution.

Power On allows a multitude of ways to tailor data.

Power ON has allowed me to create a companywide Forecast and Budget with the MS Excel platform that gives users the power to add their own inputs for analysis.

I liked the relative ease of use and the multitude of capabilities that it has. Power XL being my favorite feature.

Cons:

Buggy features in PowerXL. The total row not displaying aggregates after a save.

VBA issues with the Excel documents that left users helpless with their budgets and forecasts during deadlines.

Pretty useful tool for business

Overall, I've had excellent experience with Power ON. Recently, we even had to migrate from on prem to azure installation . The associate involved was knowledgeable and walked me through (step by step) to configure the settings at our part. Even when the azure resources on our company side were not readily available, power on folks rearranged their schedules to work with us and complete the installation at the earliest. Once installed, the visuals are pretty useful to interact with databases so you don't have to develop a separate application for viewing and entering the data to backend. Definitely recommend the tool for dashboard development and reporting.

Pros:

Our business has been using this product for quite sometime now. Main highlight is their customer support. Over the years, we've had issues with application use, new installation etc. and they have responded quickly to all the queries. They even connected remotely and walked me through error resolution in their visual planner product, which we use for Power BI dashboard developing and reporting, even when we were on different time zones. The tool is easy to use once installed and avoids high maintenance as opposed to other applications for the same purpose.

Cons:

The application we use (Visual Planner) sometimes lags when dealing with large data. The load time of visuals is also high if the table has huge data.

Its a great to to make PowerBi dashboard more interactive. It has got a good feedback from our finance folks for its simple to use interface.

The way the shared licenses work is difficult to manage. And minimal visibility on the user management

The Power On suite of custom visuals offers many exciting new ways to utilize Power BI. It will allow for an easier user experience in many cases, and eliminate complicated data entry workarounds using excel and other methods.

Cons:

There are many configuration options available in a visual. These options provide the ability to achieve a custom look and feel, but learning how to setup the visual settings can be complicated.

Simplicity of Power XL interface - users know how to use it since they are familiar with Excel Flexibility to use it in a number of scenarios, not just financial planning Ability to customize the Power XL features Very simple for straightforward scenarios

Cons:

Can be a little complex to configure for complicated scenarios. More custom dev required (e.g., SQL Triggers) for these scenarios. No ability to track usage, licensing, etc.
