About Templater

Generating documents from existing Microsoft Office templates is as easy as it gets with Templater. It allows you to create beautiful documents/quotes/offers/reports within your favorite Office tool. Unique minimal and stable API allows for trivial integration into third party apps. Once integrated, there is no more need for custom coding to create a new report.

Domain experts and designers will be much more productive within already familiar Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Allowing template customization from applications by users/administrators can give you a killer feature.

Templater Editor's seamless integration with Microsoft Office will provide an easy and familiar editing experience. Advanced debugging support will support you in resolving the most complex issues. Tags listed directly in Microsoft Office allow for easy drag and drop. By attaching explanations/descriptions and examples to tags from your application you can expose insights into your domain.

One of crown jewels in our SaaS product

Historically we spent hundreds of dev man hours customizing templates every time a report needed tweaking. With Templater we gradually moved this task over to Customer Success and then finally, our customer's administrators / champions. It saves a lot of energy when customers themselves can try out tweaks to the templates without going through the change request process.

Pros:

Minimal API that we can extend, fast and not CPU/RAM intensive. Supports a ton of useful formats, primarily useful to us are Excel, Word and CSV. Ridiculously customizable, unparalleled flexibility.

Cons:

While editing a pre-made template is as very easy - literally editing an Excel to do minor tweaks or add new columns, it requires training to understand how to design a new report from scratch. The minimalistic approach is a doubly edged sword, since this simplicity has a learning curve when you want to deep dive into complex (e.g. nested, multi page) reporting.

Reasons for switching to Templater

We used Apache POI before, now we're still using POI but only for parsing (since Templater doesn't support reading documents, only generating them). It's a completely different class of product, the customers themselves are the ones configuring the Template. I have no idea how we would achieve this with our previous approach, except by recreating a poor-man's Excel/Word rich editor from scratch.

Simple and powerful integration for report customization

We are using NGS.Templater.dll (version 7.1.0.0) via a .NET C# implementation.By reading the manual and by seeing the examples on GitHub I was able to successfully complete all tasks assigned to me.

Using templater for teaching classes in software development and reporting

Very satisfied. Alows me to Cover more materijal with my students that improves their student assignements significantly, and allows them to be even more creative woth their solutions.

This is the ideal tool for teaching students that are not from the engineering background but business and economics about software development, reporting and documents automation

Cons:

All the other solutions seem overly complicated in comparison, so there is very little i dont like about it. maybe more visual approavh to user interface to bring all the capabilities od templater even closer to ono-technical users...

The alternative were specifically created for advanced engineering specialists. Not appropritae for inzroductory level students.

A clean and scalable way to generate reports

We've used Templater to generate financial and other sorts of reports, sometimes on-the-fly, for external customers. Though the external customers had a variety of formats and templates for these reports, it adjusted well to our needs, and did so at scale without much issue.

Pros:

Templater turns our reporting module functionality from a standardized-hard coded one, to a highly flexible and configurable one, empowering users to configure endless custom reporting and document templates, without the need for custom development.

Cons:

I think documentation could be improved to be made more accessible to less technical people: users are definitely underexploiting the full potential of the tool.
