SmartDraw a powerful tool for diagramming, drawing, layout and more.

It is perfect for drawing projects, has a wide range of templates that make it easier for you to work and all the types of diagrams you need (at least it is for my IT area), it has a desktop and online version that allows you to work in any place, it is very useful.

Pros:

SmartDraw is a very complete plication for all types of diagrams that you need, has great virtues with respect to Visio that can be considered the number one in the market or at least used, when you need to diagram a project from the basic algorithm to the more complex gantt diagrams , this tool is very useful, it makes you much easier in work (in my experience much easier to use than Visio) the connection between diagrams is simpler, since finishing a diagram makes it much easier to do the following, has a wide range of options and templates that help you in the creation process, contributing to the development of diagrams for systems that you are going to develop, a very useful tool for projects where you need to correctly capture what you want to develop, use it, try it for yourself.

Cons:

Its main against is the price, the full version is very expensive although it allows you to enjoy the desktop version and its cost is very high, I think you should download it to compete more in the market. The speed of the online version sometimes fluctuates negatively, it is a mistake that must be corrected.

Good basic CAD program

Overall it has been good, I’ve used it personally and professionally for years. Just needs some tweaks here and here.

Customer service is top notch. For the most part it is beginner friendly and quick to use. Great for visualizing literally anything you could think of. Latest update provides even more customizable options.

Cons:

User interface could be more streamlined, I constantly have to hit other tabs to use tools/options that I feel should be lumped together (like editing text, all text editing and formatting options should be together, not under separate tabs). The program does lag if you’re using it for a prolonged period of time. Searching for things is really frustrating, especially how you can simply change a word to plural and get an entire new set of symbols. That definitely needs some work.

Reasons for switching to SmartDraw

I was new to the unit and realized the program that was used for sketches was way too outdated. I found smart draw in college and have used it ever since so I convinced command staff to get a license for it and now our whole unit has used it.

Good libraries - ie range of projects with templates one can use. I like the ability to show or hide measurements.

Cons:

Very clunky drawing and measurement tools; completely ridiculous pricing for light users now they have switched from product licences to online subscriptions

Excellent replacement for MS Visio, Project, and Excel!

Pros:

I have used MS Visio for many years, but now that I'm retired and don't have a business account with Microsoft, I am inexplicably ineligible to give Microsoft my money to subscribe to Visio. Regardless, SmartDraw is more than just a substitute for Visio; it's a robust app with a flatter learning curve than I expected. I was able to easily create the diagram and find the icons that were perfect for my purposes. SmartDraw anticipated the features I needed, which helped reduce the time I spent completing my project. The tutorials and help engine also helped me visualize my end-product more easily. I am now using SmartDraw to build a Gantt chart to help me manage my project. Again, I have used MS Project and MS Excel for this in the past, and I am pleased that I can now do everything right in SmartDraw.

Cons:

So far, I haven't found anything significantly lacking in SmartDraw. If I do find something that I don't like as I continue to use the program, I will update my review.

Reasons for choosing SmartDraw

Canva is supposed to be easy to use, but it isn't for me. In addition, it doesn't do everything that SmartDraw can do.

Reasons for switching to SmartDraw

After retirement, I was no longer eligible to purchase MS Visio, but my need for workflow diagrams, project management tools, etc., remained. SmartDraw fit the bill super well.

Useful Program with Fantastic Support Team!

I had a great experience with implementation while playing a lead role in the program adoption within my department. The SmartDraw team was always very thorough, open to questions and meetings, and provided real-time training for our members. There is also continuing potential to utilize this software for unintended purposes, such as post-incident review and emergency response analysis for presentation.

Pros:

I really enjoy the interface, and having the program browser-based instead of application only. The ability to utilize layers and various templates has been helpful with the extra benefit of existing icon libraries for various project types.

Cons:

The main issue our department members had with the functionality was overwriting existing projects due to comfortability with "Save As" procedures and unfamiliarity with auto-save. This was mostly resolved with awareness/education training.

Reasons for switching to SmartDraw

Cost per license was cost prohibitive for our budget and implementation situation.

I greatly appreciate that there are existing icons for the types of projects my school needs - salon floorplans, crime scenes, professional kitchens, etc.

Cons:

I create templates and distribute them through Google Classroom. The integration could be smoother. Also, when students create work from templates, the new projects push the template down among student work, which makes the template difficult to find. Also, students can access, edit, and delete other student's projects, which is extremely problematic.

While SmartDraw is useful for creating simple diagrams and floor plans, it does not provide the powerful 2D drafting, precision tools, and 3D modeling features that AutoCAD offers for professional architectural and engineering work. Users also report limited design options, fewer customizable shapes, and slower performance when handling large or complex diagrams. In comparison, AutoCAD is widely recognized as an industry-standard platform used by architects and engineers to create highly detailed construction drawings and collaborate across firms. SmartDraw would improve significantly if it added more advanced CAD features, better performance for complex projects, and a wider library of symbols and customization tools to better compete with professional design software like AutoCAD.

Pretty Easy to figure out without support, but support was there when I needed it. I am still learning the program and am surprised how AI can answer most of my questions.

Cons:

Since I am mainly interested in floor plans and furniture arranging, and exterior home drawings and landscapting I wish there were more choices in your catalogue. Exterior siding would be very helpful. I also found navigating between the lbrary and selections a bit of a pain, wish what I use the most would stay in my selections.

Pros:

I appreciate the responsive customer support for Smart Draw. It is a great program to use for our crime scene investigations classes. There are many helpful features and tools for students to use. It is very helpful for students to be able to save the sketch within Smart Draw and then to download to a PDF for assignments.

Cons:

There is a bit of a learning curve when creating a sketch. However, after using the program a couple times, it becomes easy to use.
