Adapt Authoring Made Easy

I found out about App eLearn through the announcement of an industry award they won and thought I would give them a go as a way to reduce development costs on some learning projects I was put on for the Non Profit I work with. The experience has been first rate and extremely enjoyable. The platform allows for rapid development and the support I have received, when needed, is second to none.

Pros:

App eLearn is built on the Adapt Authoring platform which is clean, powerful and relatively easy to use. App eLearn have made the barrier to get on board with the platform non existent, which whilst I am rather techie, I did not have the time or willingness to try and configure my own instance of Adapt. In addition to a great product is a fantastic support team who have proven to me, very recently, that their still is quality customer service and support in the IT industry.

Cons:

Some pieces of functionality are not quiet as easy to implement as some of the other rapid development tools, but these have been minor and the product is constantly being improved upon.

Cost and functions for the cost.

Reasons for switching to App-eLearn

Costs and the need to hold an ongoing subscription should changes need to be made down the track. My organisation does not hold a subscription and once the project is done the cost to maintain a subscription would have yielded a low ROI just for the security of being able to make possible change to the content in the future.

100% mobile responsive, SCORM, WCAG & xAPI

I see contractors and freelancers doing great things in the tool, but for my team, we use an Enterprise version, so several of the team can work on a project together at the same time.

Pros:

App-eLearn has taken all the best elements of Adapt and related plugins, and put them all in the one master version. It also has over 60 different interaction types, including interactive video and native xAPI statements are added when publishing. Being able to add your own custom features as an Admin in an enterprise version means you can make your own unique enhanced features.

Cons:

The tool has embedded links to several free stock image libraries, but it does not have its own library. However, when you share a course, you also share the related images.

The prices of the other tools are very expensive.

As a content owner without a background in digital instructional design, I found this tool to be very intuitive and easy to use. It has enough flexibility in its features to meet our learning solution needs, without all the complexity that can sometimes come with tech platforms.

Pros:

App-eLearn is so easy to use. Without any training, our team of project managers now write their own elearning courses for their project deliverables. Much cheaper than engaging Instructional Designers and Developers.

Cons:

Nothing springs to mind. Considering App-eLearn is free, I can hardly complain.

App-eLearn is free and creates better looking elearning modules faster. It was a pretty easy decision.

Pros:

The software is easy to use and very adaptable so courses built in the tool don't all look the same. The ability to customise the look and feel and add features is amazing

Cons:

As this tool is based on the open source Adapt framework some older components do not work with the new Version 5 build. However i have found the team at App-elearn are willing to work and update the software themselves in this situation.

Pros:

I'm recommending this authoring tool for any of my clients who need to develop eLearning that can run anywhere. Many businesses need to provide communications and learning on-the-go these days, and App-eLearn allows people to create training content that looks great on a mobile, tablet, or PC. It's great that it's well supported by a team of learning experts as well, help or customised extra services are never far away when needed which makes my life easy whenever learning deployment is needed as part of general communications solutions.

Cons:

Prior to using App-eLearn I was not very familiar with elearning authoring tools (being more of a face-to-face or animation scriptwriting instructional designer myself), so I needed to get over the initial (small) learning hump of learning how to use this software. It can seem complex at first sight, but on the flipside it offers some amazing interactions.
