Great to copy data locally then process in Access

      4

I use access to create custom spreadsheets from salesforce data. I found that by creating an access DB with ODBC links to salesforce, I could create a set of queries that first pulled data from SF. Then use complex access queries against that local data -- conveniently saving the queries for reuse. I haven't run into any issues with using up my salesforce API call quota by using this method. I suspect the OBDC driver make table query is very efficient.

      Pros:
Easy to setup in ODBC 64 bit setup. Allows MS-Access to see the data as linked tables from which you can then use make table import queries to pull data from salesforce.
      Cons:
For me, it is best to copy data into access by using make table queries using the ODBC-SF data as the source table, then write your custom access queries going against that imported data. Writing complex access queries that run against salesforce ODBC connections directly can result in errors and run a long time. We have over 40,000 contacts in salesforce.

      Pros:
The prodct is easy to use and enables automation and moreover simplify the data inspection, download and update (by creating Excel files to be used on SFDC Inspector, not directly) also joining with other data sources
      Cons:
The product is difficult to upgrade on a server because requires restart and some bugs in data comparision and data fetching with loss of data in some queries are still unresolved and update won't work at all

The initial responsiveness to my problems were great. They go back to me, asking for additional information and I replied in a timely fashion. Since July 1st I have asked to be updated on an ETA when this issue would be reposbeed and I never heard back. This is very frustrating. I now have 0 automation of my integration solution.

The ability to use SSMS to seamlessly tie Salesforce to our backend database is not only easier to manage, but also a saving grace to the bottom line. Managing price updates to ensure we are selling products at the correct margins was an arduous task, now we can automate that process and not worry about shrinking margins.
      Cons:
Set up was a little challenging, but once installed and working properly it is a set and forget.

      Pros:
Setting up the ODBC drivers to connect to Salesforce was very easy--the team provides great documentation and are outstanding at quickly providing useful answers to questions. The driver does a nice job of transparently translating SQL queries into the required SOQL calls, and its caching provides very good performance. Even though I already mentioned the excellent team support, it's worth mentioning again--they are outstanding to work with.

Nothing--the product, the documentation, examples, and team support are all great.
