vSAN Alternative to Dedicate SAN

we have using the vSAN as experiment in the development host, because we use the second hand server R730 cluster storage by using vsan in the development mode to create development VM it perform very well. but for the real production we still using Dedicated dell SAN unity.

Pros:

I would say that vSAN is the best feature that vmware created and it work very well if you have high speed of network 10Gb in your datacenter, and you no need to invest alot of money on the dedicated SAN. the feature i love the most, it can create the raid level on the top of the Host storage.

Cons:

even its good but please becareful if you have network bandwidth 1Gb it will stuck your storage and reduce performance.

Reasons for choosing VMware vSAN

because this technology we can save the money to buy more SAN storage, the server we have has 8 slot of hard drive already.

even thou we use multiple storage in our environment it is little expensive and can be used for high spped applications

Cons:

cost of implementation is more when compared to storage like net app tintri etc .useful low storage use environments

Pros:

The features and integration in the kernel with DELL EMC Servers, in other use cases where you combine servers of other brands the expirience is similar but not complete.

Cons:

The price of enterprise bundle that let you present space for file servers and all the requirements for a validate solution when you want to built by your own.

Because the compatibility with VMware vsphere is complete, other solutions lack in some specifics works.

Pros:

VMware vSan is a set it and forget it application. It's performance and reliability are top tier. Up time is 99.99%. Read and write times are comparable to flash performance on a locally installed flash drive.

Cons:

When combined with all flash storage, this can be an expensive solution.
