About Yamdu

Yamdu is a productivity tool that uses icon tabs for each major function. Feature layering is exploited by drilling down into each category. It allows users to stay within predefined areas without having to bounce between features located in other categories. By segmenting team members, it can further enhance setting permissions. For example, team members responsible for video editing only need permissions to access the video editing category and can be locked out from other platform areas. Only the management team requires full access and permissions to use platform-wide features.

Appointments, schedules, and planners may be color-coded and arranged to visually highlight or emphasize dates and activities. It is done through the use of a drag-and-drop creation system. Uploaded content can also be downloaded and even edited by other team members with proper permissions. It is also possible to track edits and submissions made by each user or team member.

I love that Yamdu gives you so many options for relevant film production workflow. All of the documents and tasks and breakdowns that go into a production are all in one place.

Cons:

I don't like the home page view, its a little confusing and doesn't link me to where I want to go usually

Yamdu is set in being a leader in project management for film and television!

Overall I’m very happy with the software. It’s what I’ve been hoping to see someone make since the demise of Production Minds.

Pros:

The feature set you receive even at the lowest tiered plan is impressive! How those features integrate with each other allows the pre production process move much more efficiently than using multiple tools and antiquated methods.

Cons:

I don’t like that you have to have a higher tiered plan in order to retain contacts through multiple projects. So for smaller productions and smaller companies this means you have to re-enter all the crew and cast information with those who regularly work with your production. Would love to see that changed or even pay a small monthly fee to retain that data.

Modern production software

i implemented Yamdu on severall projects - feature films, documentaries and tv series, as a producer or production manager. i myself am satisfied, but fact is there's still missing pieces that dont allow it to become a standard

The sofware is made by and for film professionals so it basically doesn't lack any features anyone might want presently while working on a large scale audiovisual production. all the modules are interconnected and able to aggregate the data in different formats

Cons:

its a bit to modern, making it very unappealing to the old school film crews who see it as a game and not as a tool. the name itself is a good illustration of that problem

Finally, An Effective Scheduling and Tracking Tool for Producers

Biggest benefit for me has been in scheduling and call sheets. That alone makes Yamdu worth having. There are sections I did not use, but that I could see would be very useful for departments in larger productions.

Pros:

The integration of information (crew, staff, locations, talent, etc...) with scheduling is incredibly efficient. Making call sheets is incredibly easy as all the information is always available, auto-populates, and can be conveniently formatted. The virtual strip charts are also very easy to use and provide a very fast way to organize shoot days.

Cons:

It was a little hard to figure out the exact workflow at the beginning, but once I understood how the various sections relate it got much easier. The software is very thorough and as every production is a little different, it does require some thinking and planning at the beginning. The staff is very helpful and provides a good orientation that helps a lot. Support is extremely responsive -- there is a comment box that you can activate anytime and drop a note, which makes it easy for users to get help. Very good system. Also does a great job importing scripts.

Reasons for switching to Yamdu

I think Media Services suggested I try it and once I did the free trial I realized it was vastly superior to any other production scheduling system I've used. It also has very strong information organizing capabilities which have been useful for locations and crew.

Pros:

I really like the task management and the connection between the different departments. It's easy to keep track with the different tasks and to check which one needs to be done next etc..I did really enjoy the connectivity between the different departments and the tools to keep track of all the different things.

Cons:

Sometimes it's a kind of tricky to know which change in which tap has to be done to get the result you want to have, but after some time you understand the workflow, and it gets easier to work around some of the small issues. Sometimes the accuracy of the breakdown function gets a bit in the way. As an example: If you break down the costume and you highlight some of the things which are special about a particular scene, only those are shown in the call sheet. All the basic stuff (the normal costume, which isn't highlighted again in the scene) isn't on the call sheet. Sometimes that can get a bit confusing and time consuming while preparing the call sheet.

- Their customer service is off the chart!!! Incredibly fast response time and always on top of things. - The fact that it is literally a one-stop-shop for ALL aspects of productions is incredible. Having the budget and financing included in addition to cloud-based is why we decided on Yamdu. Literally, the only outside program we use for anything is Final Draft for the script writing.

Cons:

- Script Editing - The only thing that is missing is script editing in within the program but I hear it's coming and am very excited about that. It will make small changes so much easier than doing multiple full script imports. - Mobile App - I also hear that the app is continuing to be improved. I work with many young crew and talent that are pretty much phone only especially when on location so they live on the apps. Having the majority of the same features on the app as on computer will set it above all others.

Efficient and professional tools for film workers

I can not explain how thankful I am for this tool! I had a lot of problems with yamdu at first, and when I contacted support they have been the most amazing staff! My work has become so much better and at the same time everyone at yamdu has helped me so much to find out what the problems were. Also, I am so thankful that Yamdu is so flexible! Since I work in a very different system than for example USA, they have done everything in their power so that I can use this tool even if I am just a normal film worker on a normal salary. I cannot thank them enough!

What I love about Yamdu is that I save up to 3 days on my pre-production phase and this actually helps me to be more creative. Cause this way I can use more of my time on the production design than rather using all my time on making lists. I love that I can switch between all the scenes and make proper notes and these notes showes up on the esthetic lists Yamdu creates on their pdf exports (this is optional of course). I also love that you can import shooting schedule from Movie Magic and my breakdowns are sorted after the schedule, very satisfying!! In every way, Yamdu has helped me become more creative and efficient in my work, which I have missed all the 14 years I have worked in the industry in Norway!

Cons:

I thought it was a bit difficult to understand Yamdu at first, and how to tagg elements to my breakdown, but I can recommend to actually watch the videos on yamdu´s website before starting on any breakdowns(I did not do that so it became a bit hustle but my own fault). Also I was a bit shocked how expensive yamdu can be if you have the episodic feature, I wish this was more clear on the website and when you start free trials.. But then again, the industry is different in Norway (where I work), and here the production companies don´t pay for tools like these, freelancers have to pay themselves.

Its easy and great for project organization. Love how many categories there are and the ability to turn them off when they aren't needed. I also like the progress tracker and the ability to review projects remotely.

Cons:

I wish it was easier to see subtasks in the project overview. Also we have had issues adding certain file types to projects.
