Finally a PLM solution for fast paced hardware companies.

5

Excellent - this is the PLM solution that my team and I have been looking for. It does everything we need it to and more, without impeding our rapid iteration workflow - it's more like having an additional team member rather than babysitting a terrible piece of software like you get with other PLM solutions

Pros:
My team and I have previously used 3DX and solidworks products, and while some form of PLM solution is needed, we always hated the clunky and unintuitive interface of other product. After being fed up with 3DX, I came across duro and tried it out. Duro still has all of the advanced features of existing solutions, but with a clean and logical interface that doesn't feel like a burden to use. Getting up and running was very fast and easy, with far better support resources than we have had with other solutions, although we found we didn't even need much help. Duro does what a PLM system should do, save time and reduce organizational burden so we can focus on actual engineering work. For a small team, the straightforward use and minimal time sink to set up was critical for us, but there are extensive features that ensure we won't have to change systems as we scale up.
Cons:
It's a newer product so there are still integrations and features under development, but I haven't found it lacking in any way yet. I can only compare to the 3DX platform in which there were technically a lot more features, but half of them didn't make sense or didn't work. Everything on duro just works, with far fewer bugs than 3DX.

Reasons for choosing Duro

Best interface and ease of use that I have come across.

Vendor Response

Kyle, thanks for sharing your experience! We know how frustrating clunky PLM can be, so it’s great to hear Duro’s intuitive design is a breath of fresh air. We’re committed to keeping it that way—powerful yet seamless as you scale. Appreciate the feedback, and we’re here if you ever need us!

Overall would recommend if companies have the budget for it. Haven't worked with too many competitors/alternatives but I'm satisfied thus far.

Pros:
Reasonably well documented, software is pretty intuitive and works fairly well, doesn't lag, etc. Works fine in Firefox on a Mac which suggests they have put some effort into ensuring cross-browser support. Duro was transparent about the requirement for an extra (non-free) plugin to connect with Atlium. This is a requirement on Altium's side, and it is true that Duro does not have any control over this.
Cons:
Solidworks plugin didn't seem like a fully-finished product, but perhaps still better than the native Solidworks PLM solution. Altium integration requires the Altium custom PDM integration plugin (which, to Duro's credit, they were fully upfront with us about), which in turn requires the A365 Security package. What we initially believed would be a $1k add-on was actually around a $5k add-on... Not Duro's fault, honestly it just left me somewhat distrustful of Altium's quotes & sales. These are small details that (in my opinion) would help Duro become a best-in-class product: Enhance the workflow & integration of product variants: A. Would be nice to create variants across a component or sub-assembly parameter (e.g. color, memory storage size, etc.) B. Would be nice to have some way of applying edits to all variants across a given component. Right now, I think this can only be done BEFORE creating the variants, not afterwards. C. Would be nice to for the software to provide a method to automatically create variants for all parents assemblies (up to the top level assembly) when you create variants of a given sub-assembly. A. Would be nice to have some concept of variants that is more than just a list. For example: you create a top-level-assembly widget in Duro, composed of assorted assemblies and sub-assemblies (SA). If two of these SAs have variants (e.g. SA#1 has variants across color (red, blue, green), and SA#2 has variants across electrical plugs (types A,C,D,E)), in plain English you have a product with three colors and four electrical plug types. Most people would naturally draw a 3x4 grid when conceptualizing this product. However, variants in Duro don’t really support organizing this way so you’d end up with a list of 12 variants which does not scale well at all, especially when you have more than 2 variant “dimensions”.

The Best PDM I've Used!

4

Overall, working with Duro has been a very pleasant experience, especially as compared to legacy, non-cloud PDM solutions. The ease of deployment and integration has been wonderful, and the product has worked as intended. There are many features which I have yet to explore.

Ratings Breakdown

Pros:
Some Pros Include: -Easy deployment and integration has allowed for accelerated productivity from day 1, without a steep learning curve. -Duro's cloud-based service has been reliable and has required no maintenance or support, unlike legacy PDM solutions. -When technical has been needed, Duro has provided it quickly and effectively.
Cons:
Some Cons Include: -Occasional authentication issues with Onshape plugin. -The features that would distinguish Duro as a PLM product (as opposed to just PDM) do not seem existent/mature enough to me to merit their use. I would love to one day use Duro to manage builds, component inventories, etc. - it will be interesting to see how their product gets built out in the future.

Easy-to-use browser PLM and easy-to-integrate PDM - Duro

Pros:
Duro is an easy-to-use PLM and PDM software that makes it very easy to set up a single source of truth for engineering data. Their integrations and easy browser interface make it super easy to get new engineers onboarded.
Cons:
Duro's software is constantly evolving, and as a small startup, they are still building out a lot of new features, however, they are very receptive to feedback and their support handles issues extremely quickly.
