About ATutor

ATutor is an open-source learning management system (LMS) designed to help educators devise and develop online courses. Key features include assistive technology, messaging, student profiles, adaptive navigation, file storage, group blogs, communication tools and preference settings.

Teams using ATutor can create course networking groups and facilitate social networking within courses to enhance student engagement. The built-in author handbook offers linked documentation, which enables instructors to add their notes for reference. Managers can view individual usage statistics to measure the performance of learners and identify gaps in learning tendencies and content coverage.

The JavaScript-based WYSIWYG editor in ATutor allows staff members to edit and format course material without using HTML. The Accessibility Checker helps authors review the accessibility of their content by automatically identifying known accessibility problems.

Pros:

Its available both as open source and a hosted version . The hosted version has very affordable pricing and even scalability is not too steep. Can make your own courses on the platform and even import external files .

Cons:

The look and feel is like that of 90s ! Needs lift in GUI badly . Besides that , the ATutor icon at the bottom even on paid hosted version can be a big letdown for some people.

ATutor is completely free and open source Learning Management System that you can develop on your local desktop and deploy to any of the common webhosting providers. It's been around for a long time and has lots of documentation and resources to help you get going. It has plenty of modules, themes,
