About StarChapter

StarChapter is a cloud-based association management solution for local or national, professional and trade associations. The system offers membership management, online event registration, email communication and website content management.

StarChapter enables users to plan events and manage a chapter. Chapter administrators can set up meetings or event information prior to the event, email invitations or post announcements. Guests can register or purchase tickets through the website. StarChapter tracks attendance, revenue, member counts and automatically sends receipts during or after the event.

Member information is kept updated and can be organized into different groups based on type, business, committee and more. The solution records attendance and dues and keeps information on file for prospective members. The online association survey tool allows users to create surveys directly through the system.

Much Better Than We Had Before!

Very good overall experience. Problems have been worked out and now receive complements on how easy the site is to navigate. Only downside is that we do get spam or phishing emails from Contact Us form submissions.

Excellent set up process. Our concerns were always addressed. Support after going live has been responsive and helpful also.
Cons:
Occasionally we had trouble understanding instructions given in Knowledge Base. There's been a learning curve in understanding how "Dynamic Content" works.

The build on my web site took a while, as I was passed from rep to rep and not all of the information that the previous rep had put in place existed, so had to reinvent the wheel. The software is definitely not intuitive--you do have to read or listen to instructions in order to accomplish things within the site. Finding answers to "how to" questions is also not intuitive or easy...unless you work on it every day or have someone that just works the web site, it is difficult. In my case, the organization that uses it, is only a volunteer gig....so finding time to work on it is challenging.

Cons:
It is complicated and time consuming...not intuitive. They offer a lot of videos and trainings but that requires time, of which is short for myself.

We like the fact that automated membership tasks help save the treasurer time.
Cons:
The back end is not at all intuitive. It's hard to use unless the user is experienced in website design. Also, we don't like that some countries where we have members are blocked.

What I like most about StarChapter is that it's easy to navigate and easy to update content. This is the most important aspect for me.
Cons:
My least favorite aspect of StarChapter is learning the newsletter function vs other email functions.

As far as software systems go, StarChapter is easy to learn and yields a great product/website/management system. Our association's website looks clean and professional. We can do all functions of association management in one place--membership management, event planning and registration, reports, newsletters, invoicing, etc. It's really simple and saves us time, energy, and money.
Cons:
StarChapter doesn't have immediate call in support available, so although the help techs are extremely knowledgable and can always guide and "fix" an issue, it does take a few days to schedule a call/screen share. So if there is a pressing question or issue you need addressed, know it isn't going to be resolved that day. Note: There is an extensive knowledge base where many answers can be found, but if you're not the most tech savvy, sometimes it's easier to talk to someone.

Cheap but not worth it

I’ve used it for over 15 years. Overall it works ok. But more functionality would be good, better email management and financial management. You have to use their merchant which was cheap and now is more expensive than authorize.net.

All in one service, except for financials- quickbooks has been rumored to be added but that was over a year ago and it’s still not working.
Cons:
Email design and reporting, selecting who you are sending them to is not as good as constant contact.

Cost was too high with member clicks and had hidden info I couldn’t find or edit from past events.

Cons:
Faster access to questions. The turn around for answering questions is 24 hours. It should be less than that.

The knowledge of the support staff is always great. When we set up meetings with them their communication is thorough as well as their follow up.
Cons:
There is SO much it does and I've not even scratched the surface. I need to set aside time for more training.
