Photogrammetry and Construction

With file sizes getting larger and larger, you need software to view and utilize the data. Not everyone has workstations, and it is not feasible to expect the end-user to purchase something for short use. With Optelos, we are sharing data with end-users and giving them a system to utilize the information without needing their own special GIS/CAD software to use the information. Sharing full-resolution models, point clouds, orthos, PDF, CAD, Word, or any information with our clients through a single system enables a more collaborative working relationship.

Pros:

One of the best things is the flexibility to use the best tool for the given scenario. Sometimes photogrammetry isn't feasible, but Optelos offers location intelligence systems that cover all bases by pulling metadata from photos and files—allowing you to use visual data to complete your work as necessary.

Cons:

The most significant limitations come from using the models for measuring and annotations. The point cloud is the primary tool you utilize to measure and annotate, and while it is more accurate. There is a time and place that I would prefer the model.

The main reason for choosing Optelos was the ability to share models with clients without them needing their software to view or utilize the data.

Reasons for switching to Optelos

The primary reason for transitioning was the lack of an ability to share models. Pix4D does have its cloud version, the quality of the models is so bad that it is useless, in my opinion. I also like that the data is more protected with Optelos, and someone can not simply share your link. You must give a client access to the data first. One advantage I liked with Pix4D was utilizing the measurements and annotations on the 3D model directly. With Optelos, you must use the point cloud.

Thank you for your positive review of the Optelos software and your feedback regarding its scope, flexibility and accuracy. We certainly understand your desire to complete measurements on mesh models ("models") in addition to pointcloud models, as mesh models often appear more photorealistic and offer additional visual detail (although Optelos creates pointcloud models that can rival mesh models). As you surmised, the Optelos platform restricts measurements to pointcloud models due to their inherent accuracy. Pointcloud models consist of millions of mutually-referenced data points that offer up to 1 mm accuracy, which mesh models cannot provide to any degree.

The Next Generation in Roofing Companies

We have become more efficient with our estimating and project managment with optelos. Faster and more accurate estimates. Better prep with the operations team. Less mistakes in estimating and in the field. As we continue through projects the data keeps building on itself. It's so cool to look back at everything come the end of a project to see exactly how we progressed. If we did make a mistake, it's easily indentified and corrected as the software ensures the whole team is on the same page.

We had been experimenting with 3D modeling of buildings and drone software for a while and had a problem...How does one share files that are upwards of 50GB and they are not in a file format that most people can run on their average computers. In comes Optelos! This cloud based software provides a seamless environment for us to share our visual data internally and externally. The location intelligence makes going through hundreds of pictures from jobsites a thing of the past. We know where we want to look and Optelos presents everything based on GPS coordinates....even pictures from your iPhone!

Cons:

Due to the software being so robust, it looks a little overwhelming at first sight. No worries though. It only takes about an hour or so to master the basic navigation of the software. Also, one must realize they are likely not going to use every feature in their business model.

Reasons for choosing Optelos

Bently allowed similar features to Pix4D, but again lacked the support for additional data to be housed and the unique location intelligence which is so critical when trying to get to specific pieces of information.

Reasons for switching to Optelos

While Pix gave us the ability to share models, there was nothing more. Optelos allowed us to bring in all of our data into one platform. Now it's neatly organized and shareable across the globe if necessary. The model resolution prepared by Optelos is also superior to the results we had from Pix.

Essential tool for distributed asset management

The ability to visualize, combine and annotate a variety of data sets all in one platform is essential to be able to maintain effective asset management. Easy of using digital twin as a base for the digital report is very unique to Optelos and creates a singular space that can be co-shared with finance, maintenance, operations, and many other teams.

The lack of ability to work with DTM and DSM models.

Optelos has much more features that are very useful on distributed assets as well as the ability to use data meshing to combine a variety of data sets into one space.

The data visualization is something that we use the most. We work with Drone Data so sharing the final, processed product with the client is often a roadblock. Most clients that are new to this will not know what to do with an .LAS file or a 3D Mesh. With Optelos, we are able to not only provide the visualization of their files to them but they then have the tools to work within it.

Cons:

One thing that I would like to see is an option to conveniently process data. When needed, the Optelos team can process data but they are notified through a personal email/call/message. I would like to see an option for me to upload data to a folder and have a "Request to Process" form to fill out stating what I need.

Reasons for switching to Optelos

We have not made the switch completely but we like to have both as options. The Drone Deploy experience feels more convenient & consumer based while Optelos feels more like an advanced technical industrial product.

Optelos is low cost way to professionally organize and deliver drone data. In addition, the ability to access and collaborate with the data is the most important feature for me. I also should mention the Geo Folders, being able to place certain folders that are geolocated on a 2D orthomosaic to reference something important is highly critical and useful feature.

Cons:

I think the feature list, which has annotations and tags for the images can use an upgrade to the user-interface.

The ability to have all data in one place for a customer's project is invaluable. Maps, 3D models and photos are all presented in a single platform allows our customers to see the current state and history of a construction project. Customer service has been amazing -- I receive responses quickly and the Optelos team is always open to jumping on a phone call to discuss what I'm trying to show/structure. Due to the flexibility of the application -- having this type of support to help present the data to our clients correctly the first attempt helps us keep our clients happy!

Cons:

It takes a little while to learn how to navigate the UI... but once you (your customers) do it is not an issue.

Best Visual Asset Management Platform on the Market

We utilize Optelos to analyze major telecom operators' infrastructure assets and determine the real-world alignment to the intended design. Optelos has helped us determine errors, create scopes of work to correct those errors, create bills of material and dashboard the errors found. It is instrumental in our cause.

The ease of use of the platform and ease of availability of the most useful of data sets Optelos apart from all competitors analyzed. In addition, the software team is nimble and able to customize the solution to a variety of needs across the customer base.

Cons:

Dashboarding capability could be improved to allow for greater macro data visualization. Something that looks more like Tableau for instance.
