Our Analysis of ShipStation's Pricing Plans

We've conducted a comprehensive analysis of ShipStation's pricing plans to help you determine which option best aligns with your shipping needs and budget. We've also outlined the key advantages and limitations of each plan to facilitate your decision-making process.

ShipStation offers four main pricing tiers: Starter, Growth, Scale, and High-Volume. Each plan is designed to accommodate different business sizes and shipping volumes, with fe...

atures that scale accordingly. **Starter Plan** The Starter Plan is ShipStation's entry-level offering, designed for small businesses or those just beginning their eCommerce journey. Priced at $9.99 per month, this plan allows for up to 50 shipments monthly and provides access to ShipStation's core functionality. Users can connect with over 300 integrations and access discounted shipping rates from major carriers including USPS, UPS, DHL, FedEx, and GlobalPost. **Pros:** - **Extensive integration ecosystem:** Access to 300+ integrations allows connection with virtually any eCommerce platform or marketplace. - **Discounted shipping rates:** Immediate access to preferential rates from major carriers helps reduce shipping costs from day one. - **Low barrier to entry:** The affordable monthly fee makes it accessible for businesses with limited shipping needs or those testing the platform. **Cons:** - **Limited shipment volume:** The 50-shipment monthly cap can quickly become restrictive for growing businesses. - **Single-user restriction:** Only one user account is permitted, limiting team collaboration capabilities. - **Basic support options:** Access is limited to email support, which may result in longer resolution times for issues. **Growth Plan** The Growth Plan, priced at $29.99 per month, is tailored for businesses experiencing steady expansion in their shipping operations. This plan increases the monthly shipment allowance to 500 and introduces additional features to enhance efficiency and customer experience. The Growth Plan builds upon the Starter Plan's foundation with improved support options and branding capabilities. **Pros:** - **Enhanced support access:** 24/7 support via both live chat and email ensures timely assistance when issues arise. - **Brand enhancement features:** Branded tracking labels help reinforce your company identity throughout the shipping process. - **Increased shipping capacity:** The tenfold increase in monthly shipment allowance accommodates growing businesses without requiring immediate upgrades. **Cons:** - **User limitations remain:** The plan doesn't specify additional user accounts, potentially restricting team collaboration. - **Additional carrier connection fees:** Connecting your own carrier accounts incurs an extra $20-30 monthly fee. - **Limited automation capabilities:** Advanced automation features are reserved for higher-tier plans, requiring manual handling of some processes. **Scale Plan** At $99.99 per month, the Scale Plan is designed for established businesses with substantial shipping volumes. This plan allows for up to 2,000 shipments monthly and introduces more advanced features for efficiency and customization. The Scale Plan also expands user access to accommodate growing teams and provides API access for custom integrations. **Pros:** - **Multi-user capability:** Support for up to 3 users enables team collaboration and division of shipping responsibilities. - **Advanced customization:** Customizable packing slips and product bundling features provide greater flexibility in order fulfillment. - **Developer access:** ShipStation API access allows for custom integration development and workflow automation. **Cons:** - **Significant price jump:** The threefold increase in price from the Growth Plan represents a substantial investment. - **Higher carrier connection fees:** Additional fees of $40 to $95 monthly for connecting your own carrier accounts add to the total cost. - **Limited user seats for the price:** Three user seats may still be insufficient for businesses shipping 2,000 packages monthly. **High-Volume Plan** The High-Volume Plan, ShipStation's premium offering at $399.99 per month, is tailored for large-scale eCommerce operations with extensive shipping requirements. This plan removes the monthly shipment cap entirely and provides the most comprehensive feature set, including advanced automation tools and expanded user access. **Pros:** - **Unlimited shipping capacity:** No monthly shipment restrictions allow for unlimited growth and seasonal fluctuations. - **Comprehensive team access:** Support for up to 15 users accommodates larger teams and departmental divisions. - **Advanced automation tools:** Features such as Automated Rate Shopper and Auto-Split help streamline operations and optimize shipping costs. **Cons:** - **Premium price point:** The substantial monthly investment may be prohibitive for smaller operations. - **Per-shipment fees for carrier connections:** Unlike lower tiers with flat fees, connecting your own carriers incurs per-shipment charges. - **Potential feature overload:** Some businesses may not utilize all advanced features, resulting in paying for unused functionality. **Additional Considerations** ShipStation offers a 30-day free trial with no credit card required, allowing businesses to test the platform before committing. All plans provide access to discounted shipping rates, though connecting your own carrier accounts incurs additional fees that vary by plan level. ShipStation operates on a monthly subscription model with no long-term contracts required, providing flexibility as your business needs evolve. **Conclusion** ShipStation offers a scalable solution designed to accommodate businesses at various stages of growth, though with significant price jumps between plan tiers. For small businesses and startups: The Starter Plan at $9.99/month provides an affordable entry point with essential features for businesses shipping fewer than 50 packages monthly. However, growing businesses should be prepared to upgrade quickly as they approach this limit. **For growing small-to-midsize businesses:** The Growth Plan at $29.99/month offers a significant increase in shipping capacity and enhanced support options. This plan represents the sweet spot for many businesses that have established consistent shipping volumes but haven't yet scaled to require advanced automation. **For established midsize businesses:** The Scale Plan at $99.99/month introduces multi-user capability and advanced customization options that become increasingly valuable as shipping operations grow more complex. The 2,000 monthly shipment allowance accommodates substantial volume while the API access enables custom workflow development. **For large eCommerce operations:** The High-Volume Plan at $399.99/month removes shipping limitations entirely and provides the most comprehensive automation tools. For businesses regularly exceeding 2,000 shipments monthly, the unlimited capacity and advanced features can deliver significant efficiency gains that help offset the premium price. When selecting a ShipStation plan, businesses should consider not only their current shipping volume but also anticipated growth, team size, and need for advanced features. By aligning these factors with the appropriate plan, businesses can optimize their shipping operations while maintaining cost efficiency. The availability of a free trial period makes it possible to test ShipStation's functionality before committing to a specific plan, which helps ensure the selected option truly meets your business requirements.

Pros:
I used to sing their praises and recommend them to everyone who needed any shipping services. They used to be very reasonable and provide a nice amount of features on their lower-tier packages.
Cons:
They have become yet another greedy software company that does not care about its customers. We have been using their Bronze package for years. We have always been able to edit our packing slips. I really didn't need to change anything except the barcode size, because the barcode on the default packing slip is too small and doesn't scan. Suddenly, with no communication from ShipStation, my account has reverted back to the default packing slip, and I am no longer able to change the barcode size. The ability to customize packing slips is now behind a paywall. I would have to pay an extra $480 per year just to have a packing slip that is scannable! Instead of telling me that I need to upgrade to the next tier, why don't they just make a default packing slip that is actually functional? I actually reached out to support to see if they could just fix the barcode size on my default packing slip. Lo and behold! They actually changed it! But alas, the next day it reverted to default sizing again. So I reached out to support again, and they changed the barcode size again. I asked if this is a permanent change because it only lasted a day last time. He assured me this is a permanent change and I won't need to reach out again. One day later, it reverted to the default size again. I reached out again, and this time I got a support agent who told me I need to pay an extra $40 a month to have a functional packing slip. I'm not asking for additional features; I just want FUNCTIONAL default features. Also, they randomly took API functionality from my account. Guess what? You also have to go to an even higher tier to get API access now! My branded tracking page is non-existent, and my shipping services were no longer displayed on my website checkout pages.

Pros:
Shipstation has by far the best UX/UI of any of the shipping softwares we've used (Shippo, Easypost, Pirate Ship). It also has far more frontend features. If you're primarily using the web portal for shipping management, this is your best bet. You'll get things done much faster than with alternative options.
Cons:
The biggest downside of Shipstations is their carrier rates. USPS rates are quite bad as they force you to provision your own USPS account. Other platforms allow you to use their rates for USPS, which gets you much better discounts (unless you ship 50,000+ pieces a month on your own account, you won't match the discounts on Shippo or similar).

Reasons for choosing ShipStation

We use both Shippo and Shipstation. Any USPS parcels go Shippo because the rates are so much better

Solid Shipping Platform with Room for Better Support

4

ShipStation has been largely positive, especially when it comes to its seamless integration with ecommerce platforms. WooCommerce, in particular, connects effortlessly, making it easy to pull orders, manage shipments, and keep everything in sync without extra work on my end. That reliability has made day‑to‑day fulfillment much more efficient. The main drawback has been the responsiveness of support. When everything is running smoothly, ShipStation is a huge time‑saver, but during moments when you need quick assistance—especially on tight project deadlines—waiting for support can be frustrating.
