About xcPEP

xcPEP is a data analysis platform designed for should cost analysis of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components. It enables teams to use manufacturing drawings or physical parts to generate cost estimates without requiring 3D CAD models. The platform is used by procurement teams, cost engineers, and sourcing professionals in industries such as automotive, home appliances, industrial equipment, and consumer electronics to establish cost targets and validate supplier quotes.

The system includes configurable cost models that allow adjustments to manufacturing logic, equations, material usage, cycle time, and tool life to reflect specific production conditions. It supports unlimited scenario simulations by modifying variables such as volume, material, or supplier location, providing side-by-side cost comparisons.

xcPEP operates with xcPROC, a centralized database containing manufacturing cost data specific to cities and time periods. The database includes information on machines, wages, raw materials, operations, and tools. Accurate should-costs with editable models and city data

Very happy with both the product and the team behind it. Whenever we raise a question or an issue, the response time is quick and there is a clear effort to understand the problem and resolve it. Over time we have seen several improvements in the models and data based on our feedback. Overall, xcPEP has helped us bring more structure to our should-costing process, and the working relationship with the team has been positive and collaborative.

Pros:

For us the main plus point is value for money. We are able to handle most of our important commodities in one system itself, so earlier we were maintaining different Excel files and small tools for each commodity, now most of that work happens directly in xcPEP. Support from the xcPEP team has also been very good. They respond quickly on mail / calls, and they take our suggestions seriously a few changes we asked for in the models and datasets were implemented in the next releases. Once the basic flow is explained, the software is not difficult to use. The team did onsite training for our engineers, after that people were comfortable building and running their own models. The accuracy of the should-cost output is the main highlight for me. We can tune the model based on how detailed we want to go, and the numbers are close to what we see in supplier discussions, so it gives confidence while taking cost decisions.

Cons:

3D CAD models cannot be viewed directly inside the software. Real time editing of cost model doesn't update the costing.

Reasons for switching to xcPEP

We made the switch because it was not fitting our needs. The cost models were difficult to adapt to our own manufacturing logic, and the city-specific cost data often didn’t match the rates we were seeing in the market, so several estimates did not hold up well in supplier negotiations. We also felt the customer support and follow-up were not at the level we needed, so we moved to xcPEP for more flexible models, more reliable city-specific costdata and closer support from the product team.
