About ManageEngine AssetExplorer

ManageEngine AssestExplorer is a web-based solution designed to help small to large businesses manage and track all assets across the organization. Features include IT asset inventory management, software license administration, compliance review, customizable reports and more.

ManageEngine AssestExplorer’s ITAM module allows enterprises to streamline the entire lifecycle of an asset by managing vendor details, warrant periods, pricing and more. It comes with a purchase order management module, which lets users create and manage contracts and receive regular alerts on expiry dates and renewals. Additionally, it provides configuration management database (CMDB) tool, which helps users maintain connectivity across continuous integrations (CIs) in the network, such as installations, IT services and more.

ManageEngine AssetExplorer supports integration with ManageEngine Mobile Device Manager Plus, which enables users to track information across all software and hardware assets within a centralized location. Pricing is available on request and support is extended via email, phone and documentation.

Assisted me in handling an increasing list of devices

Through using AssetExplorer, it made it far easier to prepare for audits by having key hardware and software details in order. Its capability to generate a checklist using past records was beneficial in internal and external compliance a lot.

Pros:

I found the preparation of audit with the help of ManageEngine AssetExplorer most convenient. It was also helpful to have key points from the previous hardware and software reports as a kind of checklist in case there were internal or external audits.

Cons:

Some of the assets such as those based on external virtual machines may need manual intervention at times this dragged the automated inventory process.

Pros:

AssetExplorer provided me with complete control over both the hardware and the software properties of my company without placing any agents on my network. I tested agentless scanning on my network of desktops, servers, and switches and got clean and updated records without overwhelming the devices.

Cons:

A few discrepancies appeared when creating assets from computers not on the same subnet as the agent or if the computer was behind the VPN. What is more, I had to set up credential sets and discovery rules myself, which required a little more effort.

I found that AssetExplorer had a primary feature that tied discovered assets with people. Assigning the hardware keys to the accounts of the employees proved useful in limiting the instances of loss and enabled the troubleshooting of reported issues at a much faster rate.

Cons:

There were minor inconveniences such as improper sorting and filtering of articles in certain categories. Certain editions required some level of manual work, which was unnecessary in maintaining correct compliance records.

I liked the idea of this AssetExplorer software where one could track an asset from the time it was bought to the time when it was disposed off. I was able to plan in advance of these warranty expirations, AMC renewals as well as vendor details so as not to miss important deadlines that would inconvenience IT.

Cons:

Some of the issues I encountered are when synchronizing purchase order updates with currently available asset entries.

AssetExplorer had a built-in CMDB solution that delivered a single namespace of all the managed configuration items and their dependencies. By identifying the time and usage of various software, the program ensured proper distribution without wastage of resources.

Cons:

We realized that some features in the mobile application were missing in the mobile application but present in the web application suitable for field engineers.

Pros:

AssetExplorer gave a visual understanding of its lifecycle from procurement to disposal giving us a perfect view on the assets. The graphical design that used drag and drop means made the flow easy together with the fact that every asset had to follow these particular flows.

Cons:

My only complaint about the software was that its reporting features were slightly limited in relation to customization. Some data points were not easily accessible and getting specific standard reports took extra time and energy.

Pros:

The integration of contract and vendor management within AssetExplorer made it possible to combine related information. Features such as automated reminders for the contracts expirations and the attachment of assets to the respective vendors made our procurement and renewal easy.

Cons:

I noticed that in performing implementation, the creation and input of vendor details as well as the contract terms took a lot of time. This was time-consuming especially when the vendor list was large, since they could not bulk-import data.

The PC Audit software and other discovery tools offered by AssetExplorer gave me all the visibility I wanted regarding the state of our network’s hardware and software base. Software license compliance, and the tracking of assets gave immense control and supervision over the software process.

I had some troubles with remote control, which was fully functional only with some operating systems.

For our IT department, the discovery of new assets through AssetExplorer proved to be convenient when it was run automatically. It recognized both the hardware and the software inventory into the network, including giving constantly updated information in this regard.

Cons:
