Third year with Tridion Docs

So far so good. The system is quite intuitive if you have previous experience of CCMS's. We like that RWS uses local partners that can help with implementation and support, as well as providing support via RWS professional services if needed.

Pros:

We appreciate that we can conduct review in Collective Spaces and track changes as well as the comments from reviewers in Tridion Docs. Not having to create a separate publication for reviewing purposes saves a lot of time.

Cons:

Depending on what system or software you are transitioning from, it can be challenging to adopt the DITA standard.

Reasons for choosing Tridion Docs

During the evaluation process it was concluded that DITA and topic-based writing is the right way for us, so at the end the choice was between RWS and IXIASOFT. We chose RWS primarily because Tridion Docs was slightly better suited for us, but also because we had a better dialogue with RWS than with IXIASOFT.

Reasons for switching to Tridion Docs

We did NOT change from “Skriv”, our CCMS wasn’t in the list. The system we switched from is Skribenta by Excosoft, it is a small local CCMS supplier, and we see this as a risk. Skribenta is lacking functionality for digital delivery of documentation. We concluded that we would benefit from adopting the DITA standard and topic-based writing.

Good choice for a limited content scope?

Good people to cooperate with, however the system is not so flexible when it comes to changes to the things that would help us scale up our work.

- Stuck in publication paradigm - Much to manual process for triggering translations - Seems the system has a hard time with large volumes of content

Price, DITA XML (open standard), ease of doing business, corporate grade software, IT security, SSO access, need to increase reuse and apply metadata, break monolithic documents into topics.

An appreciated tool with need to improve compliance to regulated industries

My team is very happy to have moved to structured content handling and we find it easy to use the tool and the RWS support team is very quick to answer questions and help us when we encounter issues.

A good enterprise solution at a high cost

The cost is very high and the reliance on Client tools that need to be installed on the users local machines feels a bit dated.

The user interface is very intuitive and easy to teach for new users.

Cons:

The search functionality could be better. Apparently they have been improving it for Version 15.

It was our test users' favourite. The possibility to have "anything" as a condition instead of the standard DITA big four was also a major advantage.

While the idea of combining a PLM system and CCMS system (product structure with product information) works on paper, in reality there were major design flaws that made daily work with the system very difficult.
