About PALMA

PALMA is a cloud-native SaaS solution for product portfolio and configuration management. PALMA provide a holistic 360-degree view of the product based on a common information model. PALMA consolidates , structure and govern information in one system that is typical scattered across an organization in various types of office documents.

PALMA supports Stakeholders representing functions as Marketing, Sales, Pricing, Product planning, Product architecture, New Product Introduction, Product Design, Industrial Design, Branding, Production Planning, Purchasing, Supplier Management, Finance, After Sales, etc with synchronized and consistent data.

PALMA currently offers 5 capabilities:

  • Foundation
Everything that can be expected from an enterprise system.
Includes cyber security, authentication (SSO) and authorization (role base access control), search, tagging, filtering, version control (branching and changesets), changelogs, and tasks.

  • Modularity
From customer segment to modules, both authoring tools and insight reports.
Tools supporting MFD (modular function deployment) process, including QFD (quality function deployment), DPM (design property matrix), Module Builder (statistic...

al clustering), interface matrix. - Configurability From modules to product configurations, both authoring tools and insight reports. Module variant specification, generic product structure, system and commercial properties, configuration interface, product configurator, product configuration matrix, product specification matrix, and configuration tables. - Profitability Understanding cost and revenue, both authoring tools and insight reports. Part number count, complexity cost, investment, direct costs, sales forecast (products), volume forecast (module variants), and module system profitability. - Portfolio Planning Synchronized roadmaps, both authoring tools and insight reports. Product launch plan, commercial launch plan, module variant plan, technical feasibility plan, and product specification. Authoring of configuration logic PALMA’s unique configuration intent(TM) extracts configuration logic from the product definition thanks to the intelligent data model. This empowers a product manager, without programming skills, to quickly define a configurable product and test it. This shortens iteration lead time by weeks and the involvement of programming experts is not required. Configuration intent also enables skilled configuration programming experts to tackle products with more complexity and larger size than what they could previously manage. Financial Model PALMA provides an active business case governing the financing of the planned product roadmap. Aggregated analysis as break-even plans and payback plans are available as more detailed views. Scenarios can be managed using the built-in branching technology. The business case considers Investments, Introduction and running cost, direct cost and forecasted sales revenue. Integration PALMA defines a product information model that can act as the backbone for information exchange across an organization's enterprise systems. PALMA offers a modern and resourceful REST API utilizing the efficient JSON format. The API is accessible from within the web client utilizing the popular Swagger explorer. PALMA also offers what we refer to as soft integration, where information can be linked across different web-based solutions making it quick and easy to reference and access information across an organization’s different systems. Security All customers and users are required to use Single Sign On (SSO) for secure authentication. As customers connect their SSO-system users will experience a nearly seamless experience across PALMA and other company systems. Authorization, or access control, is managed by roles. Roles can be assigned by scope. Roles can be configured for tailored access. “Configuration Intent” and “Active Business Case” are trademarks of Modular Management.

    Pros:
If you want to create and govern modular product architecture, this software is a must. It guides you how to create the modular architecture. Palma connects things together and you can see how decisions impact to the complete picture.
    Cons:
Actually very hard to think what would should be improved. In some tools responsiveness could be improved even further and that is also done.

    Reasons for choosing PALMA

There isn't really any alternative available capable in doing all the same things. You can do parts here and there, but in that case you are not connecting information together.

    Cons:
We cannot manage technical solutions in the full product variant structure and maybe a mix between CT and PCM could be useful

    Cons:
Our experience of the system performance is that it is too slow. There can many reasons for this with a web application, still it affects the user experience in a negative way.

    Pros:
Excellent tool for defining and managing a modular architecture. The highest value comes from the way the tool creates connections, rules and traceability that are often difficult using traditional tools.
    Cons:
The tool itself is not intuitive to use, so training is a must. But once training is complete this tool is excellent for managing a modular architecture.
