Great for developers, even those who need to learn more along the way (like me)

I have developed projects with October CMS and plan to buy more projects (or a full subscription for unlimited) because I have a great workflow using October CMS. I get compliments all the time about my sites that use October CMS and clients are impressed how fast features can be implemented.

Pros:

Easy to install and configure, the backend is great from the go and customizable, and even developers who need to learn things along the way will find it useful and pretty useful. I definitely could have been a better developer when I started and using October CMS actually helped me become a better developer which is great.

Cons:

Having to pay for premium support is a little steep but they are pretty good about filtering dumb questions without making people pay up front which has saved me for sure.

Reasons for switching to October CMS

Wordpress is too limiting and I didn't feel like I had enough control over the code.

Build complex websites easily with OctoberCMS!

I'm in love with OctoberCMS and i created also very complex websites full of customizations.This framework helped me a lot and is more intuitive than pure Laravel, with many tools like the builder plugin, to help developers to avoid to write several lines keeping the work very simple

Pros:

The easy setup and a fully ready to go website is what makes OctoberCMS so good.There are many templates and plugins to include with no effort and you are sure that every feature you include in your project is well written and has a good code quality.And if you can't find what you need in the marketplace, you could easily create your plugin or extend existing ones to build what you need!

Cons:

Many customers asks for easy customizable templates that are often a challenge to do.Unfortunately OctoberCMS has a poor drag 'n drop page building and customization.

Mainly for security because WordPress has a lot of vulnerabilities and bugs.I also were familiar with PHP and Laravel Framework

The perfect CMS for custom websites

OctoberCMS has helped me build dozens of websites for clients, websites for hotels, restaurants, agencies, etc.And it has really helped my business to grow, I'm very thankfull for this, and I will continue to support OctoberCMS by paying the licenses and contributing in every way I can.And of course, recommending it to every developer I know!

Pros:

I like the fact that it's very easy to customize, themes are totally customizable, you can use whatever framework you like and connect it with the backend in a very easy way.Even the backend can be customized with your own colors, styles, etc.Another thing that I like a lot is how easy you can create custom plugins, it's not hard to build plugins that do whatever you want, plus, there's a big community focused on QUALITY that shares useful plugins that you can integrate in a few steps, not like other marketplaces that have tons of plugins that do the same thing, and they do it wrong.

Cons:

I think that the only "Con" that I can find is that an average user won't be able to use it fluently, it's built for developers and developers adapt it for the average user.But as I said, it's focused on developers, so it's not really something that bothers me as one.

Engineered for simplicity

October CMS is an amazing CMS that can be used to manage any type of contents, be it contents for a website or a backend system managing non-public facing contents for an enterprise. Event management, registration, inventory tracking, medical records management and clients' portfolio management are some of the projects we have had fun with developing with October CMS

October CMS is unlike any other content management platform. It is simple and easy to be use out of the box, and the plugin features that is offered out of the box can be extended to practically anything. We have use it for a simple single page website, to an enterprise software that manages stocks and inventory with nearly 1 million record transactions per months. Documentation are awesome and the API is pretty much self-explanatory,

Cons:

The community developing publicly available plugins and themes for October CMS is currently not as active as other CMS.

Best CMS I've seen in the last decade

I'm an experienced web developper, more than 15 years of experience. Worked with Drupal, Wordpress, Joomla... October CMS is the best experience I could see since I do that Job.

Pros:

Most of the things are intuitive. No need to install 50+ plugins to have base features. Theming is awesome, and you save lot of time compared to a standard laravel application. In fact, it allow us to do tailor made websites for the price of a template based wordpress website (ok, just a little more expensive).

Cons:

Some elements are a bit less well designed or missing. The most missing feature to me is a page builder that would allow customer to edit their landing page content in a visual way. Or the file management widget that is confising between fileupload and media manager.

It's based on the laravel framework (PHP) which is the language I know the most.

Laravel-based CMS made easy

We work since the beginning of OctoberCMS with it. We came from WordPress and Grave (Database-driven, and flat-file). And OctoberCMS is the best of both world. Quite fast, but also has all database strengths. It provides us a RAD environment to create web-based software for all our needs.

Pros:

I love the underlaying Laravel foundation, and the easy-to-adjust backend forms. It just works. Well. I never had bigger trouble with updates (minding updating trouble with WordPress, Typo3, Magento....) which saves lots of time and money.

Cons:

It still misses some features typical cms have. Like version control, a out-of-the-box blog boilerplate, migrations of content. But in theory, everything can be custom created by ourself.

It's open-source, was free to use, and now has a reasonable price-structure. It has consistent updates, doesnt break stuff, and just fits.

Grav has a terrible ux for editing content.

The best CMS I've worked with

It's the easiest and most straightforward CMS I've used. It's so simple to start with an idea and iterate on the design and development without fear that an choice made early in the process will come back to haunt you later. For an independent developer this is very important. October CMS gets it right.

Pros:

Built with Laravel. Flat file system that can be extended to use a database. Advanced site building tools like Taylor and Builder. Easy and consistent theme system.

Cons:

Theme and content are mixed together. This should be changed. Outdated plugins in the marketplace.

Reasons for switching to October CMS

I need to earn a living. I don't have time to work with inefficient legacy codebases. Wordpress is simply an old fashioned application. I need something better. Drupal attempts to be a modern framework but development is a mix of old and new, and they are always doing things the "Drupal" way instead of moving with the rest of the modern web dev world.
