PDWare really helped mature the competency of the Enterprise Project Office by providing valuable project portfolio insights and enabling decision making for senior Executives. The implementation and onboarding process was very seamless with expert guidance received every step of the way from the PDWare team.

Pros:

While most PPM Tools claim to have a resource management module, PDWare is the only solution that actually addresses the requirements for managing resources within a complex project portfolio management environment. The software is very easy to use providing great value for money with flexible licensing options. Customer support is provided by very skilled resource management subject matter experts.

Cons:

While the user interface and navigation through the various functions appears complex at first, once you find your way around it is very intuitive. Because the software is so comprehensive one feels overwhelmed at first, but the trick is to start with the basics and build you use of the functions within the tool from there.

Resource Planning & Allocation

We successfully use ResourceFirst / PDWare to plan our resource forecast, determine allocation and shortfall, monitor our actual resource spend, and then use that information to do business analytics on the portfolio.

Pros:

The functionality is very good for the price point. It was relatively easy to get set up and gain visibility into our resource use across the portfolio. The Excel client is very powerful for using built in macro's to analyse the data based with our user defined fields. The web interface (ResourceFirst) is easy to use and makes it relatively simple for the team to capture and submit their time. The reporting capability out of the web interface also provides some excellent dashboard capability to enable improved visibility across the organization.

Cons:

The company is relatively small, which enables them to offer the desired price point. The down side is when new version updates are released, we frequently find issues in the new release. To be fair, these are always addressed quickly, but it would be better if the regression testing was more comprehensive.

Cons:

Honestly, there’s very little to dislike about PDWare. The platform is stable and intuitive once configured, and the support team is exceptional. If anything, the only “challenge” is that PDWare’s breadth and flexibility reward thoughtful upfront design to fully leverage its capabilities. That isn’t a drawback—just a reflection of how customizable the system is. Once structure is in place, it runs smoothly, scales easily, and keeps portfolio, resource, and financial views aligned. In practice, we’ve found it reliable, responsive, and consistently helpful. PDWare (ResourceFirst) has truly revolutionized our resource management and reporting capability at Mediclinic SA, creating the visibility in the business that was lacking before. Besides the product, the professional support is exemplary.

Cons:

The manual setting up of the platform is very time consuming but understandably so, because of the numerous functions of the platform. QlikView reporting was difficult to navigate at first, but was succeeded by QlikSense which has been a game changer for Senior Management decision making.

PDWare - Best in Class for Project Portfolio Management

I have used PDWare in different instances since its inception in the early 2000s. I have also been on the inside seeing companies such as American Airlines, Baxter Healthcare, Pfizer and Natus using the tool with great success. Highly recommended for companies that desire an immediately usable, cost-effective solution.

PDWare is an excellent tool to support planning and resourcing a portfolio of projects. It is easy to use and immediately valuable "out of the box," yet it also provides a robust capability that can be expanded to a highly customized approach. It captures information and supports decision making at the executive leadership level and for individual project and resource managers. Functional and project managers can collaborate in the tool to align and balance key resources across projects. The PDWare interface is beautiful ... just like working in an Excel application. The PDWare support team is phenomenal; they typically respond within an hour and oftentimes within minutes. In addition, if you need a bit of customization or specialized scripts, they will typically do this quickly and at no charge. Simply put, PDWare is big bang for the buck!

Cons:

Seldom, but sometimes in their eagerness to support customer needs, updates get pushed out that may update or change minor configurations effecting how data is retrieved or reviewed. Not a big deal, no data lost.

The system is easy to use, and we appreciate the quick response we experience from the PDWare team. The system helps us analyze what we need to accomplish our projects as well as how much time was spent in order to make good business decisions on future projects.

Cons:

Look and feel is not always intuitive for our users, the updated version of PDWare is better and look forward to future improvements. Specifically around customization of the look and feel.

Review on ResourceFirst and PDWare

The main feature which is resourcing to Projects and Time Tracking work well. There have been a lot of other features that do not work or have issues. Struggling through these issues at time with the technical staff at PDW is very frustrating.

There are numerous features that are nice.

Cons:

Numerous issues with the software that do not work right. On a good day we get a response for technical support from PDW but on other days we seem to get no response. We are going to be doing an upgrade and last years upgrade went horrible with so many issues. Hoping that this upgrade will go better because we know there will be issues.

Product was purchased 12 years ago and we have no choice because management doesn't want to change at this time. Although the issues have made them think we should at times.

Pros:

* resource sheduling can be done. * one of the best feature is its capacity management feature. It can give you a proper forecast based on the data you have. * Both cloud and inpremise options available.

Cons:

* it lacks a resource allocation workflow like request resource, match skill set and allocate. * it is more like a capacity plannning and forecasting tool.
