About Google Meet

Google Meet is a video conferencing app. It is the business-oriented version of Google's Hangouts platform and is suitable for businesses of all sizes. The solution enables users to make video calls with up to 30 users per high-definition video meeting.

The app allows users to join pre-scheduled meetings from calendar events, choose a link, enter meeting code and even dial in from their phones if the invitation includes a phone number. Google Meet integrates with G Suite versions of Google Calendar and Gmail and shows the complete list of participants and scheduled meetings. It shows a "join" button for users to connect to the meeting and provides options to mute and turn off the video during the meeting.

Google Meet allows users to dial in phone numbers to access meetings, thus enabling users with slow or no internet connection to call in. However, dial-in numbers are only available to the G Suite enterprise edition customers.

The Online Meet Up Spot - Google Meet

Pros:
Google Meet is an ideal platform for video calling and meeting that is widely accessible and does not require installation of any additional software. The built in tools like custom backgrounds or blurred backgrounds is convenient for users who may wish to adjust their background imagery. It is incredibly simple to set up meetings and to invite participants both inside and outside of your organization. Since most people are already familiar with Google products the learning curve for using Google Meet is incredibly simple and takes virtually no time to adjust to.
Cons:
There really isn't much that I can critique about Google Meet, the only thing I could say negatively is when you are running it through Google Chrome it can be quite resource-heavy on your computer and can sometimes cause lag issues if you don't have a fast upload/download speed from your internet provider. I think this is fairly common across many web-connected Google services as it eats up a lot of RAM.

Google Meets office chats

5

Luckily, everybody in our office had gmail, so overall, the experience was awesome within our team. The downside as mentioned above was trying to do calls with parents who did not have gmail

Pros:
Google Meet is a great alternative for video chatting. There's not a time limit for how long it can last so that is super helpful! During covid, google meet was our team's go to for video chatting.
Cons:
Sometimes it did not work when somebody didn't have a gmail account. This proved to be an hinderance when trying to meet with parents of our students during the school day.

Reasons for switching to Google Meet

Zoom limited our video chats to less than an hour at the time. This made it difficult because we had to meet with students longer during the school days.

Pros:
I use this for daily standup and architecture review. It is very easy to share screen and show the cloud console logs. Integration with calendar is smooth, just one click to join. Background noise cancellation helps when I am working from noisy cafe.
Cons:
Sometimes when I share screen, my laptop becomes very slow and hot. If internet is fluctuating, the voice breaks a lot. I cannot send large log files directly in chat easily. It consumes lot of battery on my laptop during long calls.
