About Craft

Craft is a cloud-based content management system (CMS), which helps businesses across multiple industries create and design content as well as manage eCommerce stores. Key features include localization, section types, relations, image editor, categories, tags, multi-site, custom forms, live preview and user management.

Teams using Craft can manage all custom fields in a centralized location, which can be organized into groups according to individual requirements. Employees can create and assign fields to users, sections, global sets, tags, assets and Matrix fields. The image editor enables staff members to flip, crop, rotate and strengthen photos from within the Control Panel. Additionally, managers can also define user groups and optionally enable public user registration.

Craft allows eCommerce businesses to create limited or unlimited coupon codes, which can be applied to certain products or entire product categories. The solution is available for free as well as paid annual subscriptions and support is extended via a knowledge base, community, FAQs and online inquiry form.

Craft Is THE BEST Way to Build Complex, Custom Websites

I just built a massive website with Craft and it was a pure joy to work with.

    Pros:
I love everything about Craft. It is easy to setup, easy to structure data, author templates, and shape content the way you want. It is powerful, secure, and backed by a helpful team and robust community. I can't recommend a website building tool more highly than Craft. I've used many and it is simply the best.
    Cons:
Like any CMS, Craft requires you to learn new techniques and tools that can feel foreign at first. This isn't unique among website building software so you have to be patient and give it time.

    Reasons for choosing Craft

Craft was able to out-perform other competitive products in the space for our site with thousands of section entries.

    Reasons for switching to Craft

Statamic stumbled on the thousands of entries we were porting in to the new site. Moving to Craft allowed us to handle these large sections gracefully from the admin panel.

Robust enough for Power Users, Easy for Beginners

    4

Overall, our organization has been very pleased using the Craft CMS tool to power several different websites. It is robust enough that our developers/agency and easily create new modules and accommodate our requests, but easy enough that several entry-level administrators can update the content of the site and make simple changes.

    Pros:
The administrative tools used to change website content, add modules, and update pages are very user-friendly and it takes little training for a new administrator to learn. I also especially appreciate the Preview Feature which allows you to see your web page but then real-time edit it using the side panels.
    Cons:
The search function for finding certain pages could be a little more robust. As it stands, it searches within certain types of pages (like entries, single pages, unpublished pages, etc.) but I wish there was a way to search from all categories at once and to be able to search content on the page, not just the title.

    Reasons for switching to Craft

We made the switch to Craft when we brought a new agency on board who was more versed in Craft and could show us the easier user interface.

    Pros:
We needed to build out an event management platform to suit our custom needs and were able to use Craft for a variety of functionality and it met nearly all of our needs.
    Cons:
We had to build out a custom admin layer as the current admin layer was not customizable. Member management could also be improved, there are some kinks in permissions and viewing members that don't always make sense.

Tool to enable quick soltuions to be provided with minimal fuss

    5

A useful tool that provides a simple straightforward interface, easily managed by those that have not used this tool before. Quick solution to a straightforward request to have a working product in place in a matter of weeks as opposed to months. Used in the industry and easily scaled to our larger requirements once put live.

Ease of use and setup. Flexible and meets business demands very quickly. Minimal training and out-of-the-box solutions are readily available. Fully scalable to enterprise levels with minimal costs/skills required and enables better usage of resources.
    Cons:
Purchasing additional licenses when required is a piecemeal approach rather than licensing from within the platform. Updates are good but our solution required an initial older version which also caused issues elsewhere, but resolved in a reasonable timeframe.

A CMS That Grows On You

    5

Overall, I believe Craft will always be on my short list for content management systems to consider for new projects. Given the ethos with which it was developed (as a purely vanilla CMS) it can be a little quirky for those that come from WP, Drupal or a proprietary platform. But if you can work with a development team that prefers Craft over other platforms, it makes for a great CMS.

    Pros:
Craft is a CMS that feels a little odd at first, but after you reorient yourself it is really easy to navigate. The user interface is clean and everything loads really quickly. And based on what I hear from our developer team, the platform is extremely customizable.
    Cons:
If you come to Craft from a Wordpress background, you will miss some of the functionality that Craft does not yet offer. In particular I miss bulk editing of posts, as well as the simplicity of just dealing with pages and posts. Craft can be set up in a much more complex way and that obviously makes the user experience more compex.

    Pros:
I like the live preview option as opposed to only being able to edit a website from the back-end, but I've used better.
    Cons:
It's not the most intuitive CMS to use or learn. It's more geared towards those who understand the back-end programming of websites as opposed to a content/marketing manager who needs to update a website on a regular basis. It can be glitchy sometimes as well. I needed to contact the person who set up the website for us multiple times to fix problems (like form redirect issues, and random code showing up on the site).

I do not like that some of the steps have to been done through HTML. Craft is a site that the Digital Marketing Managers and the Technical Managers share BUT it would be nice to have the choice as to whether or not each landing page is coded or not.
