About Later

Later is a cloud-based marketing software that enables organizations to manage and schedule posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and other social networks. The platform includes a visual content calendar, which allows users to handle scheduled posts and automatic publishing via a unified portal.

The drag-and-drop interface in Later enables marketers to reschedule posts and visualize the social feeds' planner to preview posts before final publishing and monitor engagement in real-time. The built-in Instagram planner lets users schedule stories, view analytics and identify the suitable time for publishing posts. Other features include hashtag suggestions, media editing, mentions, notes and more.

Later allows teams to import media from Google Drive, mobile devices, Dropbox and more. It is available for free and on monthly/annual subscriptions. Support is provided via email and an online help center.

I enjoy using Later, it's a great social poster with limits

Overall I enjoy using it better than most social media schedulers. It's reliable, it autoposts to IG as long as you have an IG business account. It's super easy to use and sort of has a built in content calendar.

Pros:

I like that you can house your unused photos and that it lets you know how many posts you've used a certain photo in. So if I post it to say Pinterest, FB, and Twitter it will say it's been used 3 times. This helps me manage a huge bucket of content. I really enjoy being able to see the whole upcoming week's posts at a glance and move them around easily if needed.

Cons:

Sometimes uploading photos glitch out. You are limited by file size so often times I have to go to the internet to edit them using Pixlr etc. Also you can't see further back than a few weeks on the calendar on the free plan. That is tough.

Reasons for switching to Later

Too many limitations and the account kept offering smaller and smaller benefits for the low end plans.

Pros:

The price point is good, the product is easy to learn and there has been minimum downtime. I can schedule out my social media posts a month in advance which is always a good thing. The biggest reason I choose this software to be able to add a link in bio on every post. Since I do a lot of recipes, that was key.

Cons:

Until recently, couldn't schedule carousels but that has been fixed. Now can't schedule reels which would be ideal.

Reasons for switching to Later

Buffer couldn't give me individual links in bio for each post.

Pros:

The features initially seemed promising, my experience after the free trial has been disappointing.

Cons:

I was automatically enrolled in the most expensive plan after the trial, despite not selecting that option. This felt deceptive. To make matters worse, when I noticed the charge for the second month and immediately contacted support, I was unable to cancel or even receive a prorated refund. This lack of flexibility and customer service is concerning. Additionally, the 59-second video limit is restrictive for content creators like myself. It forces me to post some videos directly, defeating the purpose of using a scheduling app.

See Ya LATER, Competing Apps!

Overall, Later's been a great app to utilize. We tried Buffer, which didn't appeal to our experience style. Later's made it easy for us to post on multiple accounts and customize the scheduled posts. Later's helped us maintain a consistent social media presence in my organization's off-season time when our programming is spread out but we wanna show our relevance in the community.

Pros:

How easy it is to use, that it's an industry standard, and the extra features in the subscription are actually worth the price. The free version is accessible to people new to social media marketing, which makes it easy for anyone to get social media marketing/communications experience. The interface makes it easy to visualize when posts are scheduled, which photos have or haven't been used yet, and which social networks the posts are scheduled for. On top of that, I love that each post can be customized based on a platform's post guidelines and, if you have different demographics for each network, you can tailor your first caption to whatever audience you're trying to appeal to.

Cons:

The only issue I ran into with Later is trying to authorize Later to log into Facebook mostly because we have multiple admins on the organization's page. We ended up resolving it by finding out the only person allowed to authorize the two apps to combine info is the person with the email address tied to the Later account. It's a hassle to keep in mind, but a small one that can be relieved easily.

Later has the user interface and experience that ended up working out for us more.

I love using Later. I think its definitely worth the price, but would like if they allowed a few more users per pricing plan. It is simple, easy, and convenient to use. It really allows you to be in control over your social.

Pros:

I like the flexibility it has to post and schedule different types of content for Instagram. I really like that you get a preview of your posts and you can plan them out so far ahead.. You actually get a link you can share of your planned posts so other people can see it. My favorite part of later is that you can post directly to Instagram, it allows you to tag people and tag locations. This software also gives you analytics, allows you to pull content from others via hashtags and searches, and it allows you to add other users as contributors.

Cons:

I currently don't like that you can't auto publish carousel photos but I think that's more of an Instagram API issue than anything else.

Reasons for switching to Later

It wasn't flexible enough and didn't have all the features I needed for the price.

Great for Instagram, If that is your only social media platform...

It helps my business save time by posting to Instagram automatically. I block out an hour or two per month and create my content and schedule it with later, so it is a great tool for my business.

I love the easy set up when you sign up for an account and the fact that it saves you so much time scheduling posts for Instagram! The basic account is also FREE which is amazing! Also, they have a great blog full of valuable content!

Cons:

I wish it had a way to integrate with more apps, like google drive, canva or adobe. It would just make it easier to create posts and send them over through some sort of integration. I would also like to be able to post to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest etc. with Later, For now they are just and Instagram platform.

I went with both actually. Hootsuite was also not as up to date with Instagram installations. But it was still a time save fr the other social media platforms I use for my business.

Buffer does cover all platforms, but it wasn't as up to date when I made the switch.

Overall good program

Pros:

The content scheduler works great and is easy in use. It makes your social media marketing less time consuming. Later has most important social media accounts in house which is a big plus compared to some other competitors. Price is oke

Cons:

Almost none analytics in the lower tiers. And to expensive to just upgrade for that aspect.

It serves a purpose, but I have no loyalty to it.

It scheduled the post. It gave me analytics. It didn't allow me to schedule images as nicely as Planoly.

Pros:

Later offers a wide variety of post scheduling features for most popular platforms but at a more modest price point. Later also offers some features not commonly implemented in competing products, such as a calendar view that makes it easy to see at a glance what posts are scheduled, and at what date/time.

Cons:

Unfortunately Later's complexity does get the best of it sometimes, meaning the learning curve, while not bad, is certainly steeper than some competing tools like Buffer.

Tons of features!

Overall, I do really enjoy Later. I think it's appropriately priced and has great features that many other scheduling apps don't. Most important of all - it allows you to schedule Instagram stories which is VERY important nowadays in social media marketing.

I love that it allows you to post on Instagram stories, which is why I initially purchased a paid plan.

Cons:

It's a bit tricky to use and not the most user-friendly. I haven't been able to dive too deep into the tutorials but I hope to have time soon enough.
