A forward-thinking platform with a genuinely collaborative team

    4

Overall, they are a genuine pleasure to work with. I actively look forward to catching up with the team. They’re thoughtful, customer-focused, and bring a level of creativity and energy that the volunteering sector really needs right now. The system does have limitations, but for us adaptability and their willingness to listen and learn is what makes them stand out.

    Pros:
Two things really stand out for me: the innovation and the people behind it. We spent a long time in procurement and looked seriously at a wide range of suppliers. The reality is that no volunteering management system is perfect, because no two volunteering programmes are the same. What ultimately won Volunteero the vote was how responsive they are to a fast-changing sector. As a relatively young but rapidly growing charity, we need a system and a supplier that evolves with us, rather than locking us into rigid processes (hello, previous CRM). We really value the idea of client-driven roadmaps, and it’s been refreshing to see how quickly Volunteero can respond based on feedback rather than assumption. The second factor is the team. The level of care, attention to detail, and genuinely tailored support has stood out, and it’s not something we’ve consistently experienced with other third-party providers, even those actively trying to win our business. It feels much more like a partnership than a transactional relationship, and that’s made a real difference as our programme has developed. Alongside this, we’ve had lots of positive feedback from staff and volunteers about how easy the system is to use and, in most places, how intuitive it feels.
    Cons:
There are some core functional gaps that can be frustrating, particularly the lack of attendance management and fairly basic activity tracking. We were hopeful these would be addressed as part of the roadmap, but more recently priorities have leaned towards larger, more ambitious innovations. It would be good to see day-to-day developments remain firmly on the agenda, rather than getting lost in the excitement of newer features. Reporting is another challenge. Both insights and the logging of hours are heavily reliant on volunteers, which has made KPI and impact conversations harder at times. That said, I do see this as a short-term tension as we collectively move towards more impact-focused measures rather than purely volume-based ones. We’ve also had to keep some functions outside the system, particularly around group volunteering. Volunteero works well for individuals, but it’s not as well tuned for groups or guest volunteers, which has posed some health and safety considerations for us.

    Reasons for choosing Volunteero

Ultimately, their forward thinking and approach to innovation gave us confidence that they would evolve quickly with the sector and changing volunteer behaviours.

    Reasons for switching to Volunteero

Full tech upgrade across charity; knew that our volunteering activity was too complex to be held in a VMS.

Volunteero is a fantastic interactive volunteer management system

    5

The team at Volunteero are great for seeking and listening to user feedback. And though there are still features we would love to see in the system, Volunteero was above and beyond any other volunteer management system we compared because of the interactive reporting and chat which has really helped improve our communication with volunteers, our awareness and support when challenges arise, and our impact reporting.

    Pros:
Volunteero has given our volunteers the ability to feedback in real time, reporting on their hours and impact measurements, as well as to engage with staff and peer volunteers on the built in chat.
    Cons:
It is a fantastic and growing team at Volunteero who have been working on releasing new features regularly. Of course that means too that there are still some features we would love to see that are still in development.

    Reasons for choosing Volunteero

more interactive for volunteers and gaining feedback and oversight for staff

    Reasons for switching to Volunteero

I met with [sensitive content hidden] of the business who personally walked me through the entire system. He worked with us to remain in budget, which is very important to us as a charity! From there, we signed an agreement & got to work! I met with our wonderful account rep, [sensitive content hidden] , 3-4 times and built our missions, shifts, reports, etc. in between those calls. We had a 3 month timeline because I manage multiple other programs, but I think it could be completed in much less time if it was someone's full focus.

    Pros:
Volunteero is incredibly easy to use & if I ever have questions about something I know I will get a quick answer from the Volunteero team. The platform has incredible reporting features and lots of fun options when it comes to customizing award badges for volunteers. They are quick to listen to the suggestions of their users and do their best to implement the feasible suggestions.
    Cons:
They are a fairly new system, so there are some efficiency things that could be put into place to make things run smoother from a volunteer coordinator's perspective. I'd hardly call this a con because they are always working on things and you can make a request to their chat bot at any time of day. You can also upvote other people's suggestions so the Volunteero team has the best idea of what should be prioritized.

    Reasons for switching to Volunteero

It was outdated, hard to use, and customer support was essentially non-existent.

Volunteero is THE software to use for volunteer management

    5

I needed Volunteero to manage volunteers for a large event we do twice a year. It has been a game changer. No more logging shifts by hand and trying to mange phone and email request. If a volunteer wants to participate, they need to sign up for the app. The amount of negative feedback and those who refused was minimal. Our event needed to move forward. Volunteero has help reduce missed requests and schedule mishaps that leave volunteers frustrated and unhappy. We also use Volunteero for volunteers who visit clients and do activities, pet visits, music, etc. The report feature allows me to keep track of which volunteers are showing up, and which ones are not. Our Hospice volunteers are now able to submit hours and visit notes in one place thanks to HIPAA compliance. The submission page allows an easy way to track new volunteer request and progress during the onboarding process. I am thrilled with the product and the support from the team.

    Pros:
The enthusiasm of the team. ( [sensitive content hidden]and now [sensitive content hidden] You too [sensitive content hidden]!) They were never pushy. They made me feel as if they were excited to have me join the Volunteero family. No question is silly or a waste of time. Sending a quick video tutorial to answer a question is so helpful. You never feel like you are left alone to figure it out. The online learning and social session have been fun and informative. The Coffee Roulette is a great idea. Volunteero has a space to provide feedback on the product. They listen to the users and implement suggestions when it's possible. I am leery about AI. I love human connection with the team, but I have to admit, asking the AI Fin a simple question is a time saver for everyone. Being based in the UK has never caused an issue with me being in the States.
    Cons:
They are too far away in England. Thanks to feedback, the one thing that was a negative in my mind is being changed. Uploading PDF's and documents will be something many will find helpful.

    Reasons for choosing Volunteero

The enthusiasm of the team was a huge factor. We knew we'd not be forgotten as soon as we were signed up.

    Pros:
We’ve had a really positive experience using the Volunteero app. It has made managing volunteering much more organised and far less time-consuming for both volunteers and staff. Having everything in one place, from shift schedules and training information to updates and messages, has been a huge help and has improved communication across the board. The app is very user-friendly, even for volunteers who might not be especially tech-savvy. Shifts are easy to view and sign up for, notifications help keep everyone on track, and important information doesn’t get lost in long email chains. This has led to fewer misunderstandings and a much smoother volunteering experience overall. From a coordination point of view, Volunteero has helped us feel more connected to our volunteers while also giving them more independence and clarity.
    Cons:
A couple of areas for improvement would be the ability to upload images and clearer visibility for volunteers around full shifts or when training shifts have already been requested by other trainees. These additions would further improve communication and the overall user experience.

    Reasons for switching to Volunteero

Volunteero is 100% better and lots more features. Much more user friendly for staff and volunteers

    5

From the start of our partnership journey, we have always been supported by the Volunteero Team. Our ideas listened to and in some instances, action pretty swiftly too! I feel like even after being clients for a few years, we are still valued by the Volunteero Team as a client, and not just 'another client'. THere is real heart at the heart of this company and at the end of the day, if we can get more people volunteering, we will be helping more people and this product can really help support, not just the charities/organisations who are using it, but also those searching to be a volunteer.

    Pros:
In a world of AI and bots, Volunteero is created and run by humans. That's not to say they aren't utilising the most uptodate AI chat bot to help with FAQ's and requests in the first instance, however, behind the bot - Fin - is a human too!
    Cons:
For smaller charities, the start up cost may be a barrier to moving forward with getting the package, which is a real shame, but totally understandable in this financial climate.

    Reasons for switching to Volunteero

Because it wasn't intuative, non of our volunteers used it or knew how to use it and things that is couldn't do always had a 'work around' that wasn't actually available in the product itself.

    Pros:
We have been using Volunteero for over a year now, and it has transformed the way we manage our volunteers. Before this, we were relying on a system that simply did not meet our needs, together with a manual onboarding process that was slow, labour intensive, and far from ideal for an organisation working with such a large and ever growing volunteer base. Volunteero has streamlined and accelerated our onboarding in a way that has made a real difference. From tailoring application forms to promoting volunteer roles, the platform has brought a welcome sense of order and efficiency. As a large charity with many staff members who manage volunteers within their teams, it did take us a little longer to get fully settled in. Even so, the migration process was smooth overall. We had a few early hiccups, but the Volunteero team were consistently on hand, helping us troubleshoot, find solutions, and adjust to a new way of working. We are still uncovering new ways of working and continue to work closely with our large cohort of volunteers and staff as we bring more people onto the app and make full use of what it offers. It’s been an excellent move for us, and I would recommend Volunteero to all!
    Cons:
The only thing I can say is not having a date stamp on the notes section of the system. That is more of a feature though, and more about how we use it internally.

Volunteero: where efficiency meets community 🫱🏼‍🫲🏼

The support channels? 10/10, no notes. The support team really are incredible people who are exceptional at their jobs. Whenever there is a new feature, there’s a webinar and an article to support users, as well as new user webinars for staff. I work with 100 volunteers and even keep our trustee info on the platform too. You never feel inundated with features or pressured to implement everything at once. The right tech doesn’t remove the human side of volunteering; it strengthens it. Building community remains at the heart of our volunteering programme, even as it has shifted this past year toward a more corporate focus. It’s not about being perfect but more about being better equipped. Volunteero has helped us to show up better for our volunteers.

    Pros:
I have to say the chat feature and knowledge hub take top spot for me. Those are two features that really encapsulate what it means to have everything in one place (that said, features like surveys, insights dashboards, tags on volunteer profiles are also great…really, I could go on all day). The chat function has helped us build community and streamline comms. It has significantly reduced the back-and-forth with volunteers. Like most small charities, I am the only one managing the volunteer programme, which means I need a CRM database that can reduce admin time and make the whole volunteering experience smoother and less stressful. Volunteero does just that. The roadmap, support chat and custom forms are a close second. You’re able to link them to volunteer profiles, e.g. signing the safeguarding policies, completing the health questionnaires, etc. Feeling involved in updates and being able to provide feedback makes it feel like we’re working with Volunteero, not just using it. We work with high-risk young people, so last-minute cancellations do happen. Having multiple communication routes means that everyone is informed promptly, and makes my job easier. Before Volunteero, onboarding a volunteer took up to 2 months (excluding DBS checks). Now it’s around 2 weeks. The platform makes life easier for staff and volunteers.
    Cons:
Early on, it sometimes felt like features were being mentioned before they were ready (still 6-8 months away). Last year, they really focused on managing expectations and releasing new features quickly, e.g. the AI support chat, which is now free for clients.

    Vendor Response

Thank you so much Jessica! And thank you for your feedback regarding new features :) We have doubled our development team to further increase our output and inform folks about new features closer to release date. Glad to see our change in approach has been noticed.
