Prolog Construction Software

Meridian Systems is a highly decorated software firm that has received over 20 industry awards over the last decade. Most recently, they were named to Construtech’s Top 50 companies of 2011. Their Prolog solution won top product of the year in 2010 from BOM Magazine. Prolog is an industry leader in the construction project management software market and has been used by more than 5,000 companies to date. Prolog has been recognized as the market share leader in construction.

Prolog has deep functionality in construction project management. Prolog automates construction processes including: requests for information (RFIs), change orders, contracts and other essential project management documents and aggregates them into a single system. While storing and sorting your files, the software also generates audit trails to increase document traceability to reduce the probability of litigation. Prolog’s open technology platform makes it easy to integrate the software, collaborate and securely share data with existing systems.

Prolog is used by construction firms of all sizes and can be implemented on a single project, or standardized across an organization. Trades that are likely to find the software a good fit are: General contractors, building owners, commercial design/build firms, engineers, government contractors, heavy highway contractors, real estate developers and specialty contractors.

Buyers can choose which delivery method is most suitable for them. Prolog is available as an on-premise solution, web-enabled, or as a web-based solution. In the event that you choose a hosted solution, Meridian System will host the data for you.

the RFI's I struggled with a bit and could not really figure out how to apply them to my needs

the audit trails for document traceability to reduce the probability of litigation wasn't very accurate.

Recommendations

I would say this software is great you just need to commit time to learning it in depth if you want to do the detailed work it is capable of. I was unable to afford a lot of time over 5 hours to learn it. but in the time I did, I found it very user-friendly. great product!

Once this program is set up I dont think anything compares. It is so great for record keeping in all aspects of construction!

I liked how it worked while I was at a big company. We had a huge amount of paperwork and this made it much easier to keep track and show exactly how things were being built

Recommendations

I would look at how much time it will take to set it up. It can be a bear of a program but then again I was in a huge company while using it and could have had network problems.

This is a product that has been around a long time and it the benchmark for most construction software. There is a host of tools on the desktop platform. Support is also pretty good.

Likes Least

The mobile iPad client is behind the times, no iPhone app, too many steps to have drawings available for field staff, no integration with drawings and the mobile client punch list. The Prolog Converge interface missed the mark with the redesign. Can not brand the site.

Recommendations

Prolog Manager and Prolog Converge is excellent software but has some limitations mostly based around ease of use.

There's nothing I like about Prolog.

It's like working with Windows 3.1. It's completely outdated and cumbersome.

Recommendations

If you are thinking about implementing Prolog, you should find another solution.

Budget control: although complicated to learn, this integrates change orders into the budget. It serves as a great way to manage a project's finances. One of the hardest things to find is a construction management program that incorporates the budget properly. Prolog is fantastic with this aspect. Custom reports are also amazing for a manager's review.

The training curve is steep. Expect to allocate numerous days into allowing your employees to train and use this product.

Recommendations

Understand that you will have to take days away from your employees' schedules to train them in this product. If you can get everyone properly trained and all using it as per the intent, it is a great product.
