Sage 50 Accounting (Formerly Peachtree)


 

Sage 50 (formerly Peachtree) is core accounting software for small business. It provides billing and invoicing, inventory management, security and analytics/reporting. It offers industry solutions for a variety of business segments, including construction, distribution, manufacturing, nonprofit and accounting.

The Sage 50 system includes built-in data checks that flag common accounting mistakes and suspicious transactions. Audit and security functions allow users to track who is entering or editing data or accessing particular functions. The software provides forecasting and analytics that can be exported into Microsoft Excel.

The product also includes inventory management; users can track inventory based on a variety of qualifiers, such as color, size, style and more. The system monitors inventory and automatically creates a purchase order when levels run low.

Sage 50 integrates with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word. Users can export Excel spreadsheets with formats and formulas intact, and data can be exported to PDF or sent via email. In addition, the solution integrates with Sage ACT!

Pros

Very user friendly and easy to use. I'm not an account savy person and was able to use without issue.

Cons

It takes long to load especially when you have a lot of information uploaded to it. It can look overwhelming if you don't know what you are looking at with all the graphs and charts.

Pros

Sage 50 is quite easy to use
The Graphic User Interface is friendly easy to use especially for a new user.
The New Company Wizard does a very good job in anticipating almost all possible accounts in the charts of account.
The report are easy and straight forward to access.
The fact that I can post a transaction in more than a single way is a plus. for example if a transaction takes place in my absence I can easily post the transaction on arrival with Cash register; that flexibility is very important for me.
The backup reminder feature is noteworthy.

Cons

From my experience, using peachtree with another currency aside the US dollar is unnecessarily not easy.
The fact that in most cases i have to export my reports to excel before changing the currency is not the best.

Sage has helped us to improve our job costing. The reports can be exported into Excel for further analytics and review.

Pros

Features work well among eachother. Create PO, Apply to invoice, Inventory, Pay bill. Create your job quote, assign job, bill job, view job costing. I have found we are happier with the program the more we utilize it to its full potential.

Cons

Using only certain features is difficult, as the steps in between may be missing to view full reports. It's also pretty ugly and kind of clunky, but it works and does the job. Additionally, it can be difficult to find support online because this is not a popular product.

The flowchart interface is great!

Pros

Gives a lot of fine grained control over the accounts, plus it keeps up with tax code changes (in every year's version). In addition backups can be programed as scheduled tasks during non-work hours.

Cons

Upgrades can be really critical to keep it working, i.e.: you can't postpone them too long. Sometimes Windows updates break things on Sage, but the support team can help you remotely troubleshoot the issues.

The product has issues crashing at times or have problems loading.

Pros

The program has some good inventory features and setting up was fairly easy. Getting the customers in they system was fairly simple.

Cons

Inventory and changing pricing can be frustrating. You have to take product out of inventory to change or update pricing. I wish they had a feature to where you could link a sales order to a purchase order without having to create an inventory item.
I also did not like that once you put an item in stock or non-stock that you couldn't change the item.

The software is not difficult to use. It is pretty easy to drill down on most reports. Can customize users to lock out information based on need to know information.

Cons

This software is not bad, but I wouldn't recommend it for construction use. If you need to job cost and post costs based on use, not on invoice, this isn't a good software for that.

Pros

I like the easy to use features of this program. While it is a more in-depth accounting program, I feel the developers took their time when designing this program. They make it simple enough for people to catch on quickly but complicated enough to get the job done. I also like being able to see my accounts in real time.

Cons

I wish they had an amortization scheduler built in. I also feel that it seems a little easier to hack than other software programs out there.

My Best Friend

For all of us who stuck with Peach Tree from back in the day, our time has come. I simply love this application. Its my best friend. As a small business owner I can tell you the ability to have my accounts at my fingertips while I am on the go blows my mind. I am tickled pink. I have to pinch myself. I am able to see my inventory, check prices and stock and give clients discounts and assurances that I can reliably trust in real time. The subscription cost is almost nominal for the value it gives me.

Pros

Access to my Accounts in real time on my mobile device.
Easy to use and covers all that I need for a small business owner who is the the head cook and bottle washer.
I can process payments and check on outstanding receivables while on the go. check stock and see sales.
the reports are exactly what I need to know to make informed decisions
I can communicate with my customers and suppliers with built in correspondent templates.
based on the information at my finger tips I can have a better relationship with my supply chain and customers.
requires very little setup.

Cons

I am sure that I will think of one in the future but for now I am at a loss. the speed could be better when searching a large record set, buts thats on me and my resources.

Pros

Sage Accounting is easy to use and a software program that anyone can learn. It has payroll built into in which I love. I think as a bookkeeper this product is awesome.

Cons

I like the product, I don't like the price and customer service. I have called in in the past to get explanations for pricing structures and support and always felt frustrated after dealing with the staff at Sage.

Fairly simple to enter information and complete daily tasks. Banking, invoices, sales and reports are easy to find and check for errors

Cons

I don't like how the program backs ups and overwrites, I wish that there was a simpler way to ensure if there is a critical error that you could trace it back more easily. Backing up and updating always makes me leery

Have been using this software since Peachtree Days. Not too happy with it anymore but I still use it for some smaller companies.

Pros

Ability to easily format Invoices and Statements. Good flexibility on use of account numbers and financial statement formatting.

Cons

Constant pressure to upgrade to latest edition. Now only available as a subscription service at a higher cost than competing software products. Seems to take a long time to load program.

What I've liked the most of this software its is usefulness. For my experience, Iv'e done all accounting from accounts receivables, payables, Aged payables, checks, payroll, timecard ticketing, etc.

All out blackmail...

I have been a customer for over 30 years of Simply Accounting, which changed to Sage 50 over the years. Last year I purchased the new update, as they deactivated the software I was using. This year, they want a whopping amount for one year. As a small business owner, this is an unexpected expense that is not feasible. I was on holidays when my credit card expired. told them I could not update, as I did not have card. Did it when I returned, and found out then the cost... Told them I wanted to talk to manager. They disconnected me. I can't get into my accounting software, as I can not even fix a paycheck that was previously posted. Blackmail, will be looking at other software this winter, after 30 years. Bad company policy.

Pros

The pro was that i was familiar with this software after working with it for 30 + years, but no longer. Customer support is not good.

Cons

Disconnect, with no alternative then to pay 400 % + markup. Very unhappy customer of 30 + years, will no longer be a customer

We can have 3 people working on something at once from anywhere. it is must faster that our old Peachtree software but the look is the same so there was no new training needed.

Pros

Easy to navigate and understand for someone who isn't a trained accountant. Easy to customize views for your info that you need to access most frequently.

Cons

Can be slow at times when loading information from screen to screen. Hard to send info from one user to another without having to screen shot and e-mail.

Easy to use and the pro of this software it can be sync with more software we use in the company.
The customer service is good also, as we did request for a help and we had over the pc help and sorted our problem.

Cons

They got one issue with the reports when you want to send the invoice via email and if you do install the updates it will mess arround with the software. So we need to wait for the customer service couple of days to come with a solution.

Nothing too big, but still essential.

Pros

The dashboard feature makes using the software and locating specific functions relatively easy. Invoicing, accounts receivables and accounts payables is straightforward. Program is cheaper than other larger accounting programs.

Cons

Inventory management features are very limited, pricing options are limited. Designed really for small, basic use . Limited customization abilities. You now have to upgrade and pay for upgrade every year because it is on cloud. Customer service is horrible, very rarely can solve any problems and wait times are very long.

We have accurate accounting records that are easily sent to our public accountant for year end processing.

Pros

We like that the reports are robust and exportable to excel, and the payroll module makes completing each run easy and year end a snap.

Cons

We get asked to backup the data upon sign in and sign out, this can be cumbersome, but also a terrific reminder to safeguard our data.

Excellent inventory tracking.

Pros

This software is great for small businesses like ours who have a huge inventory list (8,000 plus items), and customer support gives quality service.

Cons

This software makes you close out each month before the system date will change to the current month. This takes some time to do that monthly (and seems unnecessary to me) but time spent can be kept in check if you keep your records up to date and balance daily/weekly. Payroll is less user friendly than Quickbooks and updates are harder to apply.

Pros

Syncs with ADP payroll for easy payroll general ledger journal entry; works okay for basic accounting needs (AR/AP).

Cons

Many users are not trained with Sage (quickbooks is more common), poor customer service, does not sync with other databases that my company uses; invoicing is cumbersome; adding multiple users is expensive; cannot have more than 1 user in software at a time.

Keeps all of my accounts organized, so I don't have to work as hard!

Pros

Quick to learn, easy to use. Can be customized to suit your needs. You can designate accounts as you like, and add them as you go. You can set up regular payments, reminders, appointments, and special notes for your clientele or suppliers. You can set up your own tax or discount codes for quick calculations. Includes easy to use payroll as well.

Cons

There can be some flipping back and forth between screens. I had difficulty remembering which menu contained which features, because there are many.

User friendly and easy to use. I like the most recent update, it is aesthetically appealing. I also find the payroll function very easy to use.

Cons

Seems to crash often. Also, we signed up for the Sage Drive and had 1 problem after the next. Since there are too many bugs at this time, we stopped using Drive. Too risky, considering we lost over a month worth of data.

It was a good product when it was Peachtree. The software was easy to use, very few problems, it allows you to select what part you want to use.

Cons

Problem is with Sage not necessarily with product.
The Most unethical, unprofessional with ZERO service

Pros

Has many of the same features that other, more expensive software also has. Menus are intuitive. Installation is easy and straight forward. Works well in a multi-user environment.

Cons

Sage 50 does not have the expanded import and export capabilities that are available in some other accounting systems. It would be nice to see the updates pushed out automatically without the need for user intervention.

It was easy and fast to set up, I was able to bring in data from older versions of this software located in other servers and manager several different companies.

Pros

The user interface is intuitive, it's easy to install and get going on your own. Not a lot of updates to keep up with.

Cons

Customer service supports is awful. Setting up users permission can be complicated, you can't add new users when other users are logged in.
