Sage 50 Accounting (Formerly Peachtree)


 

Sage 50 (formerly Peachtree) is core accounting software for small business. It provides billing and invoicing, inventory management, security and analytics/reporting. It offers industry solutions for a variety of business segments, including construction, distribution, manufacturing, nonprofit and accounting.

The Sage 50 system includes built-in data checks that flag common accounting mistakes and suspicious transactions. Audit and security functions allow users to track who is entering or editing data or accessing particular functions. The software provides forecasting and analytics that can be exported into Microsoft Excel.

The product also includes inventory management; users can track inventory based on a variety of qualifiers, such as color, size, style and more. The system monitors inventory and automatically creates a purchase order when levels run low.

Sage 50 integrates with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word. Users can export Excel spreadsheets with formats and formulas intact, and data can be exported to PDF or sent via email. In addition, the solution integrates with Sage ACT!

Cons

Sometimes not the most intuitive software you can come across. Support can be a hassle going through the verification process but as long as your have the support package you are good to go.

Good software for the price. Has some great job costing features.

Pros

This software does an excellent job of helping to track and reconcile the full accounting process. Its reporting and comparative reports are excellent. It has great controls which allow for all changes to posted entries to be tracked

Job costing feature is excellent and the reports that are able to be produced work well.

Cons

The bank reconciliations have been known to frequently be malfunction because of entries that don't post properly. The solution is fairly cumbersome and requires unreconciling all past bank reconciliations. I have known some organizations who simply do there bank reconciliations outside of Sage 50

I would still recommend this product to all small to medium size businesses for the price point that it is at.

Pros

SAGE 50 is pretty easy to use and does have some neat features for the small to medium size company.

Cons

One of the only cons that we have come across with SAGE 50 is the "Line Limitation" in making a custom financial statement. We want to make a really detailed statement for our board of trustees so that the non-financial people can understand the financial picture easier.

Cons

Cons

Batch process takes a long time to process. ( interface from bank to SAGE). We update data from bank ( revenues) to SAGE and that function takes a long while to process.
Do not know how to create reports - My Reports in SAGE. The help sheets are not as clear as I would like it to be.
Unable to see the invoice document ( digital) in SAGE payables and unable to see any scanned supporting document to the GL entries. E.g. if the payable files ( hard copies) are not filed, we need to hunt for the document to understand the entries posted.

I have recently discovered Xero and moved my accounting practice to this software. It is so simple with the convenience of being cloud-based. I now recommend Xero to my clients and given its simplicity (yet still very powerful) I can foresee clients taking charge of their own bookkeeping and getting rid of their existing bookkeepers.

Pros

Sage 50 was the accounting program I used to recommend to all my small business clients. Stable program that has most of the simple functions needed for most small businesses. Most used small business accounting software among my clients and almost all bookkeepers in our area use and have experience working solely with Sage 50.

Cons

It's not the most user-friendly program and has a reputation of being difficult for non-bookkeepers and bookkeepers alike to use properly. Sage has been slow to make it more user-friendly and were behind in moving to cloud options. Personal experience is Sage support is very slow to respond to queries.

I have been on Sage 50/Peachtree for over 18 years and absolutely LOVE it. I am saddened that I have to move away from Sage 50 because it does not integrate with Service Titan, Field Edge or any other cutting edge dispatch programs in my industry.

Pros

Easy to use, clean appearance and very thorough information. Reports are easily exported to excel and can be customized.

Cons

The only con for me is that Sage 50 doesn't integrate with any industry related software programs I need.

Quick to learn, easy to use. Can be customized to suit your needs. You can designate accounts as you like, and add them as you go. You can set up regular payments, reminders, appointments, and special notes for your clientele or suppliers. You can set up your own tax or discount codes for quick calculations. Includes easy to use payroll as well.

Cons

There can be some flipping back and forth between screens. I had difficulty remembering which menu contained which features, because there are many.

I don't. I really don't like this software. Even our accountant doesn't like this software but her predecessor set it up so she keeps using it.

Cons

It breaks all the time (self hosted). The updates never get pushed out correctly to the client PC's. The Pervasive SQL server that ships with the software locks up all the time. It's just bad.

Once I became familiar with this software and how to work my way around it, it has remained an integral part of our business accounting. The longer we use it, the more valuable it becomes. The sheer magnitude of accounting and business tracking capabilities is incredible.

Pros

Sage is regularly updating and improving their software. There are many ways that you can make mistakes, but if you know what you are doing it is generally easy to fix said mistakes. The reports are a life saver when it comes time to do taxes or if I simply need to review something on an account.

Cons

You will want at least a very basic accounting knowledge before trying to use this software if you are starting from scratch.

Pros

Sage 50 is great for startups and SMBs looking to upgrade from quickbooks or freshbooks. The reporting functionality is a little obtuse, but it's much more powerful than what's available through other low cost solutions.

Cons

The software feels outdated and has a couple of small, annoying bugs. For example, if you connect to Sage via wifi and then ethernet, sometimes it will count that as two users logging in.

Simple to use, and was able to do the tasks needed to back up my accountant. I do not normally use the system I only cover for the office when they are out.

Pros

Super easy, anyone with knowledge of using a computer can use it. Without any training, I was able to find what I need without someone showing me what to do. I am a back-up user when the office people are gone. I use it rarely and am always able to get the job done. I didnt have a clue what I was looking for. I have done Payroll, and creating Sales Orders, and Invoicing without any training. Simple system!

I have been using this program for years (Bedford Accounting, Accpac, Simply and now Sage) It isn't perhaps as easy as some but it is easy to adapt to whatever type of business you are in. I don't get upgrades every year because I don't need the payroll ( only have one part-time and seasonal employee) so even for my business it is affordable.
