Gesture software


Gesture is a nonprofit management solution suitable for charities and organizations of all types and sizes. Key features include mobile bidding, guest management, registration management, donation management and reporting.

Gesture is mobile-responsive and enables guests to bid in auctions from their smart phones. Donors can even bid remotely. The solution is able to process credit card payments through mobile devices.

The solution is able to manage pre-registration as well as automated registration. When a donor registers, Gesture automatically sends a welcome message and gives them the ability to begin bidding, buying and making donations. Users can also monitor ticket sales for events and attendee activity.

    Pros

    This product is great for silent auctions for fundraising events. Making changes (text content) even after your event goes lives, take merely moments and so efficient. If you have any questions, customer service is available via phone or email with fast responses.

    Cons

    Limitations, meaning you have to contact your rep fairly often due to restrictions with rotations or changes to any images under your account.

    Pros

    The convenience that comes with having payment options for donors to quickly process gifts on sight is the best. We can also pre-register our attendees to expedite the gift giving process.

    Cons

    The wifi connectivity issue that comes along with this convenient software is a bit of a pain. There is often fear of losing donations during that down time, but their staff is always more than willing to make things right.

    Overall a great product--and so critical to a successful silent auction!

    Pros

    Text to bid and online auction capabilities. Bidders receive text messages when they are outbid on items. You can also set up instant purchases, text to donate, or purchase raffle tickets. You can now customize the online website to your organization or event colors, logo and information. Great customer support.

    Cons

    You do need to encourage attendees to register BEFORE the event, otherwise, it can bottleneck as people arrive.

    Easy setup, quick additions, and edits, and instant results after the event. Great reporting is available also.

    Pros

    The software is so easy to use, from a loading standpoint to the night of the event. Changes made easily from the cell phone. Really good software.

    Cons

    I have nothing negative to say. I did ask to add a report that would identify items during our event that were at a certain percent under fmv so that could be sent out, but it's very good software.

    It's really simple to learn and use this software. Layout is very simple for non-techy people to pick out and perform the bidding.

    Cons

    Sometimes it takes a while to load. And the bidding numbers dont update until you refresh the current fragment or activity.

    Overall I do like the ease that gestures brings to our events. We have worked with other software like bid pal in the past and I prefer gestures as they have easier and more fluid capabilities for what we need.

    Pros

    The ease of registration is refreshing. They have staff that assists along side our staff and have made event check in/out a seamless process

    Cons

    Custom reports are a little more difficult. The company was able to work with us and create what we needed but it would be nice if we were able to access the reports any time and pull info we need on our end instead of waiting for custom reports.

    I liked the help I received from support. I do like the ease it will be for those going to the site. I like that it will make our life easier in determining ticket sales and getting donations.

    Cons

    I taught technology for almost 30 years to teachers and students. I didn't find this site to be user friendly. It's been about 4 years since I retired but I cannot believe my skill has dwindled that much. Maybe it has.

    We used Gesture for our main fundraising event. I believe it paid for itself with its silent auction mobile bidding functionality, but we would not get that kind of ROI with our smaller events, so it's too expensive to use more than once per year.

    Pros

    Communication during implementation was great. Excellent interface. Mobile bidding was a hit with our guests.

    Cons

    We'd use it for most of our events if the pricing wasn't on a per-event basis. We'd love to see a subscription-based pricing model.

    The reports, how easy it is to look up what im looking for (a particular guest, an item, ticket sales etc)

    Cons

    There isn't a lot of flexibility in the event page site. I don't like that you can't easily see how many of each ticket type has been sold. There is no easy way to make nice looking bid display sheets.

    I had a wonderful experience with this software. I found it was easy to make my own auction site.

    Pros

    The gesture software is very easy to learn. I am new to the website and it only took me about an hour to figure everything out. Everything is pretty self explanatory. I had to create an auction site for a silent and live auction. Adding each item came with ease. When you go to add an item each section is categorized telling you exactly what information to put in. I also found it very easy to go back and change things if I had made a mistake. The site is easy for others to use and view the auction items I posted. I felt that the crowd we were trying to attract was the older generation of people and this site allowed them to have the ability to see each item without complication. I really liked that the software told you who was watching certain items. It was easy to generate an item sheet in order to print them out and post them for our auction.

    Cons

    I think my least favorite thing about this software is trying to figure out when someone bids higher than you and who it is. I found that I had trouble when I bid on an item. My friend and I really wanted an item and we kept out bidding each other but didn't realize we were the only two bidding. I wish it would tell you who is bidding against yo.

    From a guest perspective, it's easy to use, the onsite staff is helpful and it makes bidding quick and fun. From an adminstrator perspective, entering items is user-friendly, the software takes much of the manual work outu of your auction and the Gesture team makes sure you're supported throughout the whole process. The best part is that you can open your auction before your event begins, so you're making money before a guest has even arrived!

    Pros

    Easy for customers to use. Great support. Have suggested to other chapters to implement online bidding with Gesture for their events.

    Cons

    Time consuming to add pictures, set up the items. Didn't see a huge increase in money in, especially with the cost to consider, but will use again for next event.

    How easy it is to use! I love that a lot of Organizations are using it so it's easy to understand when I'm going to other functions. Another feature would be that I could print all sheets for all the items . This is a huge help and time saver . It's also great to be able to call your manger at all times

    Showing the value on all items or none . Wish you can pick and choose . I didn't like that the manger I spoke with wasn't at event . I feel like having someone you worked with should be at event not just anyone . Had a tough time with that.

    We utilized Gesture for the first time at our June 10, 2017 Hangar Party silent auction.

    Gesture greatly improved the productivity of our auction administration. With their great customer support, we were able to launch the software within a month of our event. By allowing guests to preregister, checkout was a breeze for guests and our staff. Guests could spend more time visiting with others without the need to run and check their bids. While their is a learning curve for all, we feel that mobile bidding is the wave of the future.

    Pros

    Our auction checkout was incredibly easy for us and our guests. We did not have to follow up post event to collect from bidders who left without confirming if they had won an item. The auction results reporting saved hours of manual calculation.

    Cons

    While the sign making function is a big time saver, the printed signs were not as visually impactful as those we had previously designed. The formatting could be improved.

    The software is intuitive to use and streamlines so many of the processes that eat up your time when you have to do them manually; we eliminated so many Excel spreadsheets, thanks to everything being easily captured, managed, and tracked right within the software - from auction packages to ticket sales to even the seating and meal requests.

    Beyond the software, Gesture's customer service was incredible; from the initial sales call all the way through to the event itself, every single Gesture representative we worked with was attentive, helpful, and genuinely interested in helping us have a successful event - which we did. In just the 48 hours since the event concluded, I've received multiple compliments from guests who expressed how "smooth" the night ran and how "seamless" their experience was, from check-in to bidding on auction packages to purchasing raffle tickets to checking out when they won auction packages. We will definitely be using Gesture again, for next year's event!

    Cons

    Since our event is coordinated by a mix of paid staff and volunteers, it would be helpful to have an administrative access level in Gesture that is "view only" - currently, it's all (full admin rights) or nothing.

    It would also be helpful if raffle winners could be "drawn" right in the software, rather than needing to use a random number generator on a third party site.

    With another year with this software we seen an increase in our silent auction bids.

    The ability to send out notifications on silent auction readiness for bids. Dashboard is perfect when needing to know exact dollar amount raised.

    Cons

    Item sheets need some work on spacing and layout. No other real issues other than bid sheets. Once fixed there will be no cons.

    While the current photo process is very simple, I would like to see an automatic pairing of photos with items when doing a mass upload of items into the system instead of adding each individually.

    During this first year in using the software, I saw the additional benefit of securing bids in advance of opening the auction. This started us out thousands of dollars ahead of where we would have traditionally began at the event.

    Pros

    I love the ability to add photos, descriptions, bid, buy it now pricing, and much more all in a single entry of an item. I also really like the ease in which bidders can participate, get alerts, and have knowledge of their purchases. Finally, the added bonus of a PR team to work with was an extra perk I was not expecting!

    Cons

    There are certain gaps in the software we have discovered such as: Nowhere to record solicitors such as staff, committee, or Board member who was responsible for bringing in the item; Nowhere to record an individual's name associated with a company in donor details; Nowhere to record details for pledged item, such as when it will be delivered, staff pick-up needs, etc.; Need to have ability to check box if donor has already received thank you for their contributions (such as when it went unsold at a past event and is being used again); Non-transferrable input from one event to another such as donor information. I also have major concerns over the software abilities to capture donations during the ask. There is simply no way to ensure those that raise their hands, are actually hitting the button to donate that is texted to them.
