NCR Silver Software

NCR Corporation has has been servicing retailers for almost 130 years. Their new product NCR Silver has been designed to meet the needs of small, independent retailers seeking a mobile Point of Sale solution that is both innovative and user-friendly. With their extensive expertise in the market, NCR developed Silver to meet those demands.

NCR Silver allows retailers to track customers and sell their products not only from standard POS touchscreen terminals, but from Apple Inc.'s iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The system combines the ability to track sales and profitability with marketing efforts and social media tools. This can be managed anywhere, at anytime through their Online Back Office reports and dashboards.

The marketing and social media tools make it easy to stay connected with your customers. They allow users to create custom messages about deals, specials, and other important announcements.

The mobility of the solution allows these users to collect payment on their mobile device immediately, at the table or in the home of the customer. It's also a great option for retailers who sell products in the home or at events and trade shows, since they have the option of adding a barcode scanner or stripe reader to their Apple device.

With over a century of experience in point of sale retail an extensive network of resources, NCR offers smaller retailers the peace of mind that comes from working with an established company.

POS system seemed easy to use and get the hang of. Adding inventory was simple and creating the main POS screen was a quick process.

Likes Least

Lied about e-commerce capability, no account services or layaway. When asked to for reduced payout of contract they will not budge and are just looking to get people in a contract and get paid. Even after buying additional items as an additional wasted expense that cannot be returned.

Recommendations

Make sure you not only ask to make sure the system is capable of what you want. Go through everything in trials before buying into the cheaper year term contract. My suggestion is pay the little extra to be able to cancel at any time because most likely you will.

It should have been able to do everything I wanted. I was very excited to be able to cut my paperwork in half

The system was always having problems. The support team wasn't sure how to trouble shoot problems. Each call was a different response to the same problem. I spent a extra 1 hour a day to close out. They would not let me return the hardware. The fine print protects them from customer dissatisfaction.
When I said I was done using there equipment, they said I had until Jan 17th to use there software., then it was Dec 31st They shut down my system the next day leaving me without a cash register. The software is very expensive

Recommendations

Move on to another product! NCR promised to support your company but there are to many glitches. They don't stand behind the consumer and even when the system does not work they will not refund your money. I thought that NCR would have been the best choice but was the worst.

I like the simplicity of the system. Using an iPad is convenient and doesn't take up much room on our counter and it's portable. I also like the option of paying on a month to month basis, not being tied to a long contract.

The reporting, especially for the sales related inventory portion, is not as in-depth as I'd like. I would like to be able to pull a report of the items sold by vendor name as well as be able to look at a specific item and know it's detailed sales history.

Recommendations

Make sure you have a good idea of what kinds of things you're looking for in a system- reporting features, special features (i.e. do you want to use layaway, do you sell items on consignment). Know how much you're able to spend on equipment, definitely use the trial feature, and be realistic about whether you think it will work for your specific business.
