MediTouch EHR® is a complete electronic health record (EHR) that was designed to be both web-based and offer a touchscreen user interface. As a result, the product is highly differentiated and easy-to-use. The core EHR offers functionality for charting, problem lists, medication management, electronic prescribing, allergy checks, order management, lab tests and document management, among other capabilities. The system can also be configured to meet a provider’s personal charting preferences and custom forms can be implemented to work with MediTouch’s touchscreen technology. MediTouch EHR can be deployed standalone or in conjunction with HealthFusion’s practice management system. The complete system is certified by an ONC-ATCB to meet the meaningful use criteria for ARRA stimulus funds.

When HealthFusion set about designing its own EHR, the company decided to focus on designing a system that was revolutionary in its simplicity. Because the system is entirely web-based and hosted by HealthFusion, customers do not need to install or maintain any software on-premise. Users simply log in and access the system through a web browser on any Windows or Apple computer. Fans of Apple iPads will be especially attracted to the system as it was designed with this popular new device in mind. MediTouch software for iPad, also the fastest iPad EHR, is completely web-based.

HealthFusion prices the MediTouch EHR® on a pay-per-provider, monthly subscription. The monthly subscription fees include all customer support and training services. All support is provided domestically by full-time HealthFusion employees.

It is often a long time waiting on hold for a tech to help you. It would be nice if they could answer quicker

I have mentioned issues that I would love to see change without results such as: The notes in the PM section show at the bottom of the screen instead of top where they would be more likely seen. Also, when sending a claim, the amount of the co-pay doesn't show at the bottom. Only the amount they paid shows. This is a problem because when there is a credit I don't know how much to apply. The message system between staff is complicated. PM messages don't show up in the EHR. You can't print an activity log. The tertiary procedure is troublesome. Entering payments when there was a take back from the insurance company is difficult. Reports are difficult. Viewing the dashboard is a huge problem for our practice. We would like to view all the providers at one time.

Make sure your providers are willing to do user holds on their own.

It's trendy and easy to use, and people always comment on how efficient it is. I see this as becoming a standard for all doctors' offices in the future since the old style of using paper is bulky and outdated.

Simple to use, clean lines, meets all my needs so far. No major issues in the first three months of use.

Not really specialty-specific. You have to spend the time to customize it to your practice, but I think this is the same for all EHRs unless you buy a specialty-specific one. I don't like how it take photos you upload and constrains them to a certain size. This results in stretching of the images.

Recommendations

Ask about revenue management companies who also provide software support. I am using ClinicAnywhere, and they offer affordable options and provide a smaller company feel.

The best thing about HealthFusion is that it is web-based with tech support available in the United States. Being web-based, all our office needed to use this software in terms of equipment was a computer and internet access. All maintenance of the data is handled by the company. And it is accessible from anywhere, so I can use it in the event I need to look up something while I am out of the office. And when I needed tech support, I can call a number where someone will answer the phone promptly and provide me with meaningful and helpful answers to my questions.

HealthFusion charges a flat rate per provider (MD, DO, PA, NP) each month, whether the provider is using the software 30 days a month or one day a month. This makes the overhead cost of part-time providers, such as weekend moonlighters, very costly and in some cases, cost-prohibitive.

Recommendations

Selecting an EMR is a very important decision that requires much time and financial investment. To choose one EMR and decide after implementation that it is not right for your practice would be very costly. So think carefully before choosing the best EMR for your practice. Important factors to consider are web-based vs on-site server based, type of templates available, and level of technical support required.

The cloud-based system is accessible from any computer with an internet connection. It does not need to be linked to a server.

Occasionally, the system will lag. That's possibly due to bandwidth issues from HF, but either way, it causes problems when charting, due to waiting in a queue for the system to process chart notes/prescriptions etc. Customer support call times are also long.

Recommendations

Every EMR will have positive and negative attributes. Overall, HF is a user-friendly system with visible keys and a somewhat intuitive operating system. Their customer support could improve on call wait times. I usually spend about an hour on hold, but overall, I still recommend this EMR system if you are looking for a cloud-based EMR.
