MediTouch EHR Electronic Health Record Software

MediTouch EHR® is a complete electronic health record (EHR) that was designed to be both web-based and offer a touchscreen user interface. As a result, the product is highly differentiated and easy-to-use. The core EHR offers functionality for charting, problem lists, medication management, electronic prescribing, allergy checks, order management, lab tests and document management, among other capabilities. The system can also be configured to meet a provider’s personal charting preferences and custom forms can be implemented to work with MediTouch’s touchscreen technology. MediTouch EHR can be deployed standalone or in conjunction with HealthFusion’s practice management system. The complete system is certified by an ONC-ATCB to meet the meaningful use criteria for ARRA stimulus funds.

When HealthFusion set about designing its own EHR, the company decided to focus on designing a system that was revolutionary in its simplicity. Because the system is entirely web-based and hosted by HealthFusion, customers do not need to install or maintain any software on-premise. Users simply log in and access the system through a web browser on any Windows or Apple computer. Fans of Apple iPads will be especially attracted to the system as it was designed with this popular new device in mind. MediTouch software for iPad, also the fastest iPad EHR, is completely web-based.

HealthFusion prices the MediTouch EHR® on a pay-per-provider, monthly subscription. The monthly subscription fees include all customer support and training services. All support is provided domestically by full-time HealthFusion employees.

Great EHR, affordable, love it.

Ease-of-use

It's easy to use for the most part. It's a little harder to customize.

Functionality

No issues so far. It has met all my needs for my small practice. Just getting ready to do PQRS reporting.

Product Quality

Very good quality. My notes come out in a very readable format.

Customer Support

Although I am using a third party vendor for revenue cycle management, so I have not used the HF staff, my support so far has been very good.

Likes Best

Simple to use, clean lines, meets all my needs so far. No major issues in the first three months of use.

Likes Least

Not really specialty-specific. You have to spend the time to customize it to your practice, but I think this is the same for all EHRs unless you buy a specialty-specific one. I don't like how it take photos you upload and constrains them to a certain size. This results in stretching of the images.

Recommendations

Ask about revenue management companies who also provide software support. I am using ClinicAnywhere, and they offer affordable options and provide a smaller company feel.

MediTouch was a good choice

Ease-of-use

It's straightforward and has good tutorials. The menus are easy to navigate and all features we need are there.

Functionality

It has all normal office functions built in, and the team is willing to customize.

Product Quality

Every office I talk to hates their software but me.

Customer Support

We had to go through a lot of training just to ask one or two questions that were very simple, and we were treated a little bit interestingly during that process. It was just a customer service issue really not a software issue. We were willing to do the training; we just had a couple of questions first.

Likes Best

It's very easy to work with, and they are willing to customize for your particular needs.

Likes Least

There's nothing that's different from every other company out there.

Recommendations

Get on a personal level with who you are going to work with.

from Private Practice
Specialty: Dermatology
Size of portfolio: 11 to 20 users Portfolio size: 11 to 20 users

Pretty good overall

Ease-of-use

HealthFusion has some detailed instructional videos that help significantly with learning how to implement this EMR.

Functionality

For the specific subspecialty of dermatology, there are some functions that are irrelevant to our practice and other functions that do not facilitate quick documentation and meaningful use requirements. I would say this is true of most of the EMRs currently, which are meant to appeal to a broad range of specialties.

Product Quality

This product is well-designed to fit a variety of medical specialties. Overall, it is very well designed. There are some limitations in the amount of customization that can be done. For example, in the physical exam section, the pre-determined categories in each subspecialty cannot be changed. Only the actual physical exam note can be modified, but the categories (such as acne) cannot be modified/changed. So if the software designer did not think of a category that you would like to use, there is no way to add it or change the label that has been assigned previously.

Customer Support

This vendor has both senior and junior customer service representatives. The senior trainers are awesome. They are knowledgeable, helpful, professional, and courteous. However, it is very difficult to get in touch with the senior trainers. Senior trainers are usually only available for the public webinars that are done at specific times of the day (so it might interfere with regular clinic hours), and you are only allowed a certain number of questions at each session. After your initial implementation, when you call the customer service line, a junior trainer always answers the phone. In my personal experience, it was not possible for me to get in contact with the senior trainer despite leaving several messages. The junior trainers are always polite and make every effort to be as helpful as possible, but they are sometimes unable to address certain issues.

Likes Best

The best thing about HealthFusion is that it is web-based with tech support available in the United States. Being web-based, all our office needed to use this software in terms of equipment was a computer and internet access. All maintenance of the data is handled by the company. And it is accessible from anywhere, so I can use it in the event I need to look up something while I am out of the office. And when I needed tech support, I can call a number where someone will answer the phone promptly and provide me with meaningful and helpful answers to my questions.

Likes Least

HealthFusion charges a flat rate per provider (MD, DO, PA, NP) each month, whether the provider is using the software 30 days a month or one day a month. This makes the overhead cost of part-time providers, such as weekend moonlighters, very costly and in some cases, cost-prohibitive.

Recommendations

Selecting an EMR is a very important decision that requires much time and financial investment. To choose one EMR and decide after implementation that it is not right for your practice would be very costly. So think carefully before choosing the best EMR for your practice. Important factors to consider are web-based vs on-site server based, type of templates available, and level of technical support required.

Cloud-based EMR system with positive and negative featuers

Ease-of-use

It has large colored key displays. The actions for use are categorized based on functionality.

Functionality

The cloud-based EMR allows for access anywhere with a computer and internet connection.

Product Quality

It is a solid product for a cloud-based EMR. There are improvements that can be made on the interface and intuitiveness of the product, such as how the iOS products have features that are intuitive based on user needs. There are a multitude of software interface issues. The interface between the EMR and patient scheduling can be improved upon. But, overall, it is a good base version. Software systems should always be updating themselves and creating newer, better versions built upon the last system version.

Customer Support

The vendor customer support representatives are courteous once you are able to speak to one, but the call wait times are ridiculous in duration.

Likes Best

The cloud-based system is accessible from any computer with an internet connection. It does not need to be linked to a server.

Likes Least

Occasionally, the system will lag. That's possibly due to bandwidth issues from HF, but either way, it causes problems when charting, due to waiting in a queue for the system to process chart notes/prescriptions etc. Customer support call times are also long.

Recommendations

Every EMR will have positive and negative attributes. Overall, HF is a user-friendly system with visible keys and a somewhat intuitive operating system. Their customer support could improve on call wait times. I usually spend about an hour on hold, but overall, I still recommend this EMR system if you are looking for a cloud-based EMR.

Very user-friendly and good support staff too

Ease-of-use

It's simple to use and you can use it with an iPad. Most screens are large and are self-explanatory. I can take pictures from within the SOAP note too.

Functionality

We did have some problems with the meaningful use. Attestation PQRS was not available for our specialty (only for primary care), so we have to do PQRS via an outside vendor. ERX can get slow during peak hours, but it is a minor problem. You just have to wait a few more seconds, but at times when you are in front of the patient, this seems to be too long.

Product Quality

It's fully integrated software. It's cloud-based, so the data is safer. We do have problems with peak hours doing ERX. Things slow down and we just have to wait.

Customer Support

They have outstanding customer support. Most answers are provided within the same day, and follow up questions are answered well until all problems are resolved.

Likes Best

The implementation process was simple and was the main reason the support staff was there for all of us. The platform for billing was very simple.

Likes Least

It is written for primary care, so I have to customize many steps and templates for our dermatology practice

Recommendations

Make sure that you know how to customize your templates.

EHR SOFTWARE

Ease-of-use

AFTER YOU BASE INFORMATION IS SETUP THE SYSTEM IS EASY IN SOME AREAS.

Functionality

ONLY A COUPLE OF AREAS DID NOT MEET OUR NEEDS. COULD NOT ENTER SPECIALTY LAB WORK.

Product Quality

QUALITY WAS NOT FACTOR. THE SOFTWARE SEEM TO WORK FOR THE CLINIC WHEN WORKING WITH PATIENTS.

Customer Support

CUSTOMER SERVICE RATES A 9 1/2 WITH ME IT WAS THE IMPLEMENTATION SIDE I HAD ISSUES WITH.

Likes Best

EVALUATING OTHER SOFTWARES THE PRICE WAS MORE COMPATABLE TO OUR GOALS.

Likes Least

WHEN GOING THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION PERIOD DIFFICULT TO REACH A LIVE PERSON IMMEDIATELY FOR ASSISTANCE. THE ADVANTAGE TO OUR EMPLOYEES WOULD HAVE BEEN TO HAVE SOMEONE ON SITE DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF GO LIVE. LOOKING BACK ON THE ISSUES WE HAD WOULD HAVE WORKED BETTER FOR THE CLINIC TO HAVE SOMEONE HERE TO GUIDE US THROUGH EVERYTHING THAT HAD TO BE SET UP AND THEN SOMEONE HERE THE FIRST WEEK.

Thumbs up for Meditouch

Ease-of-use

The support site has easy to follow instructions along with screen shots.

Functionality

It has great reports, nicely formatted notes and it is easy to get the info you need.

Product Quality

It has very good programming and design to helps meet incentive goals.

Customer Support

Support is great for the most part, just sometimes they become confused about what you are asking, because they are not seeing what you are seeing over the phone.

Likes Best

I like the integration of PM and EHR. I also like the customization available.

Likes Least

I dislike the difficulty in customizing parts of the exam template and the documents.

Recommendations

Be prepared for a big learning curve and time to customize your EHR to best fit your doctors. Once it is done, though, it is great.

Billing and posting prospective only

Ease-of-use

Again, it's a very logical program once it is learned and practiced. But it takes time just to learn the different lingo and steps involved to get your result.

Functionality

The program meets our needs in all areas except for month-end reporting. We are several doctors practicing under one tax ID, and the reporting measures in this situation are limited.

Product Quality

They are constantly doing updates and trying to accommodate the needs of the user.

Customer Support

Most of the customer support staff are patient and helpful. There have been a few clunkers in the past, but as of late, the staff has been great!

Likes Best

Billing is great if the claims generate automatically from the EHR side. Also, rejections and denials make it easy to work our ARs.

Likes Least

A new claim is created with every correction. That makes for a few extra steps when posting insurance payments, especially if payments have to be moved from claim to a resubmitted claim, and then corrected and reversed. This is not hard, but it is time consuming.

Recommendations

Be sure to allow time for training. It's a lot to comprehend all at once, and really the best way to learn is by addressing issues and questions as they come up in the office. So allowing time for employees to call or email the vendor - and then allowing these same employees to share with others in the office - is essential.

EHR Review

Ease-of-use

It's actually pretty easy to use and is very basic. I've had no problems with learning how to use the program.

Functionality

It makes the diabetes side of the clinic pretty fast to pass patients and pretty organized to keep track of dates of days things where done.

Product Quality

Other than it freezing and slowing down its pretty good.

Customer Support

I haven't really used it much, but from what I hear, they seem to be friendly and very helpful to our company's problems and needs.

Likes Best

Its easy to use. I learned pretty fast on it. Scanning information into patient's files is very organized.

Likes Least

It freezes a lot. There have been times where I had to exit out and log back in in order for it to work again.

Recommendations
