MediTouch EHR Software

MediTouch EHR® is a complete electronic health record (EHR) that was designed to be both web-based and offer a touchscreen user interface. As a result, the product is highly differentiated and easy-to-use. The core EHR offers functionality for charting, problem lists, medication management, electronic prescribing, allergy checks, order management, lab tests and document management, among other capabilities. The system can also be configured to meet a provider’s personal charting preferences and custom forms can be implemented to work with MediTouch’s touchscreen technology. MediTouch EHR can be deployed standalone or in conjunction with HealthFusion’s practice management system. The complete system is certified by an ONC-ATCB to meet the meaningful use criteria for ARRA stimulus funds.

When HealthFusion set about designing its own EHR, the company decided to focus on designing a system that was revolutionary in its simplicity. Because the system is entirely web-based and hosted by HealthFusion, customers do not need to install or maintain any software on-premise. Users simply log in and access the system through a web browser on any Windows or Apple computer. Fans of Apple iPads will be especially attracted to the system as it was designed with this popular new device in mind. MediTouch software for iPad, also the fastest iPad EHR, is completely web-based.

HealthFusion prices the MediTouch EHR® on a pay-per-provider, monthly subscription. The monthly subscription fees include all customer support and training services. All support is provided domestically by full-time HealthFusion employees.

MediTouch EHR is a fully comprehensive and customizable software solution that is user friendly and intuitive.

Likes Least

It took a while to learn the software due to it's awesome ability to customize forms and processes. However, once completed, it made using the software a breeze. The time saved was worth the time spent building a custom system.

Recommendations

Know exactly what you want in an EHR system before you get started and make a list. Sit through as many demo's of the top recommended companies. Then make a short list and go from there.

Like that it's web based, and easy to access from smart devices. With the information being in the Cloud, if used correctly, your desktop becomes a virtual desktop, and no information is stored, therefore, PHI is much more secure.

Likes Least

Training and customer service are both extremely poor. There is NO training, other than logging in to HealthFusion and slogging through hundreds of pages of instructions, and training videos. If you're new to EHRs or new to web based EHRs, it's particularly confusing and cumbersome. Even with extensive EHR use, self-training by reading page after page of instructions is tedious and time consuming. Customer Service is slow to respond, and often closes cases before there is a resolve to the issue. Time difference often interferes with getting any assistance. Almost every time a new feature is rolled out, or an update, glitches occur with previously working features. Changes and updates are based (supposedly) on the amount of requests from users for particular functions. This is problematic, because some offices use the system for scheduling only, charting only, etc. For practices that use the heck out of every function of a PM/EHR system, we find MediTouch to be seriously lacking in many areas. We've recently discovered that there's a MAJOR problem with User ability to access another User's tasks, messages, and patient portal messages, without logging into the User's account. DHHS requires that each user have a unique username and password to access patient records, and says log in information is NOT to be shared. How then staff members respond to patient portal messages, and address tasks and messages in a timely manner if they cannot access a User's account? Not to mention, if a User is logged in as another User in order to address messages in their absence, MediTouch is tracking the User whose account is being used, NOT the user who is actually accessing the charts. This is a MAJOR problem with regard to HIPAA.

Recommendations

I don't have any recommendations for others evaluating software like this.

HealthFusion is web-based which makes it very nice. I am no longer dependent on a Windows-based operating system and I can access my records from anywhere. This makes finishing charts quicker and easier. In addition, I can use my IPad which is much easier to carry around than lugging a laptop computer. It also was well-prepared to transition to ICD-10 and this has been a smooth process for me thanks to HealthFusion. HealthFusion also has their own clearinghouse so it is easy to submit claims and I also can verify insurance coverage live before providing services. This is important because previously, I have had a few patients deliberately give my bad insurance cards pretending to have coverage and when the claim was denied, they refused to pay their invoices! This would have been avoided if I had been using HealthFusion at that time. In addition, I am able to customize templates which faciliates the documenting process. There also is an electronic faxing component available so I can fax directly from the chart, and e-prescribing is available and easy.

The maneuvering in the system is one of the easiest I have delt with. It is so simplified. Training has been "Easy Peasy". What I love the most is the entering of information in the EHR and all the already made templates. A true point and click system for my physician. One of the best features that my physician loves is not having to build so many templates. Our office notes are nice and detailed. The vendor has worked with us every step of the away. The training has been outstanding The help menu and the training videos have been so helpful, because it teaches you everything you need to know step by step with visuals. No complicated verbiage.

The best thing about this software, is that it is user friendly. What I mean by this, is that if you make a mistake, you can easily go back and correct it without any issues. This has saved me many of time from having to totally start something over due to a small mistake in paper work wording!

Likes Least

At this point, my least favorite thing about the vendor is the waiting time on the phone when I have had to call in. But, I have to admit that I haven't had to call in very much because most things are done online.

Recommendations

Make sure you review 4-5 software vendors to get a good comparison on what your company many need, so that those needs can be met! Make sure when you are talking to the vendors that they know what you want and it makes your life so much easier!
