MediTouch EHR® is a complete electronic health record (EHR) that was designed to be both web-based and offer a touchscreen user interface. As a result, the product is highly differentiated and easy-to-use. The core EHR offers functionality for charting, problem lists, medication management, electronic prescribing, allergy checks, order management, lab tests and document management, among other capabilities. The system can also be configured to meet a provider’s personal charting preferences and custom forms can be implemented to work with MediTouch’s touchscreen technology. MediTouch EHR can be deployed standalone or in conjunction with HealthFusion’s practice management system. The complete system is certified by an ONC-ATCB to meet the meaningful use criteria for ARRA stimulus funds.

When HealthFusion set about designing its own EHR, the company decided to focus on designing a system that was revolutionary in its simplicity. Because the system is entirely web-based and hosted by HealthFusion, customers do not need to install or maintain any software on-premise. Users simply log in and access the system through a web browser on any Windows or Apple computer. Fans of Apple iPads will be especially attracted to the system as it was designed with this popular new device in mind. MediTouch software for iPad, also the fastest iPad EHR, is completely web-based.

HealthFusion prices the MediTouch EHR® on a pay-per-provider, monthly subscription. The monthly subscription fees include all customer support and training services. All support is provided domestically by full-time HealthFusion employees.

It really is easy to use, it just takes significantly longer to do Healthfusion charts than paper charts or other systems I've tried. The frustration is incredible. The system is editable, but co-workers have had trouble with Dragon dictation.

Healthfusion customer support is poorly responsive to requests for simple changes to make the system more user friendly. IE: moving the prior encounter import button to the top of the past visits list from the bottom, because we want to bring the most recent visit forward rather than the oldest visit which is where the button is located. There are other similar button issues which require scrolling instead of just being in the right place. The company is not responsive to these suggestions. The screen jumps when you add a DX or procedure code requiring lots of scrolling. Pages do not load rapidly in reliable nature consuming minutes of time and creating lots of frustration and home work. If you stop a "stuck subjective complaint" by logging out and then log back in, the subjective complaint winds up in the chart you happen to have open which make a fraudulent event you must catch. Reviewing each chart before signing is a major hassle. Updates of software inevitably create huge disruptions and cost lots of time for the staff trying to keep up, including billing challenges which complicate keeping track of accounts receivable. Inability to reach customer service when there is a big problem. Difficulty actually connecting to local service providers such as my local hospital which provides all radiologic studies for our practice. For example, the system doesn't actually send the Xray order, even once a providing organization's fax number is put in with required numbers. You need to do the paper order too. You end up writing physical therapy or radiologic study orders and having your staff scan them in. Electronic connection is not simply or cheaply available to the local providers. Medical history and problem list must be entered separately rather than having them linked so diseases which belong in both, or not, could just be edited. When unable to bring medications in electronically, you can't list all of them and then hit save. You must do each, one at a time, with multiple delays in "saving" the information. Looking up a CPT code on ICD 9 DATA.com, putting the code in the system and having non-sense diagnosis come up. Poor allergy lists, with poor customer support for needed changes. Inconsistency with "save" buttons occasionally being required and other times not, leading to lost work and many extra clicks. Many clicks required instead of just hitting enter to confirm a drug, allergy, or other chart entry. The system is bad for writing in a surgical procedure, for example if you put in EGD, nothing comes up to enter into the official SxHx location. You must use the "also reports area." Sales and support people very responsive up front, and not responsive once signed up. Too many problems to list accounting for hours of your time which you will not get compensated for.

Recommendations

Always insist on paying 1/2 the requested monthly subscription fee. The programs will require more time to use than paper which is the same as saying less patient care provided, earned income, time with other interests like family, if you want to earn the same income! Even though the bills are submitted electronically the insures will short you odd amounts of cash on multiple encounters requiring tenacious and tedious follow up by staff to be fully paid.

This software is overwhelming and difficult to use, unless you have a full time staff solely dedicated to learning it 100%.

The maneuvering in the system is one of the easiest I have delt with. It is so simplified. Training has been "Easy Peasy". What I love the most is the entering of information in the EHR and all the already made templates. A true point and click system for my physician. One of the best features that my physician loves is not having to build so many templates. Our office notes are nice and detailed. The vendor has worked with us every step of the away.The training has been outstanding The help menu and the training videos have been so helpful, because it teaches you everything you need to know step by step with visuals. No complicated verbiage.

Customer service is absolutely terrible. We have been using HF since 2011 and this is the single most frustrating aspect of use. Also have trouble getting our acct rep to return emails/call about bogus invoices.

Recommendations

Be clear of the costs you will be charged for including faxes/interfaced documents and things like that. It's been years and we still don't have answers.

The best thing about this software, is that it is user friendly. What I mean by this, is that if you make a mistake, you can easily go back and correct it without any issues. This has saved me many of time from having to totally start something over due to a small mistake in paper work wording!

At this point, my least favorite thing about the vendor is the waiting time on the phone when I have had to call in. But, I have to admit that I haven't had to call in very much because most things are done online.

Make sure you review 4-5 software vendors to get a good comparison on what your company many need, so that those needs can be met! Make sure when you are talking to the vendors that they know what you want and it makes your life so much easier!

It is often a long time waiting on hold for a tech to help you. It would be nice if they could answer quicker

I have mentioned issues that I would love to see change without results such as: The notes in the PM section show at the bottom of the screen instead of top where they would be more likely seen. Also, when sending a claim, the amount of the co-pay doesn't show at the bottom. Only the amount they paid shows. This is a problem because when there is a credit I don't know how much to apply. The message system between staff is complicated. PM messages don't show up in the EHR. You can't print an activity log. The tertiary procedure is troublesome. Entering payments when there was a take back from the insurance company is difficult. Reports are difficult. Viewing the dashboard is a huge problem for our practice. We would like to view all the providers at one time.

Make sure your providers are willing to do user holds on their own.
