Future Health Software

Future Health Software designed SmartCloud and SmartServer to help chiropractic practices manage patient records, create patient notes, schedule appointments, and more.

SmartCloud and SmartServer can each be used as a tablet-based solution so that chiropractors can actively take notes while examining their patients. Chiropractic SOAP notes and exams are completely customizable and can encompass multiple disciplines within the chiropractic specialty. The Practice Management module improves patient tracking, and can effectively track the schedules of multiple doctors within a single practice. Appointment reminders can be texted to the patient, and individual appointments can be scheduled for specific dates, times, rooms, and even locations.

Future Health Software can be installed locally on any Windows-based device or can be hosted on the cloud as a SaaS based application. The solution is suitable for chiropractic practices of all sizes and specialties seeking a comprehensive EHR, practice management and medical billing solution.

Value for Money

The past 10 months with Smart cloud have been up and down. I understand there is not a system out there that is going to have it all. That being said...
--Learning curve was steep coming from Practice Studio.
--They stated seamless integration with their clearing house which I still have to create a file in Smartcloud, go online to Trizetto's website to click multiple pages and buttons, then manually upload said file.
--They promised a soon coming mobile schedule which was in beta testing during the interview. This has yet to become available in almost a year.
--Performance issues abound in the past series of months which make it impossible to use the software during a number of prime time evenings. Not fun flying blind on a busy night and not be able to start notes, peruse old notes, Hx, and Tx, or reschedule our patients. Yet they refuse to reimburse or give credit for lost days of their service.
--Promised simple ERA application, not the case. Even if all the expected fee schedules are right (diffusely complicated) then it still takes multiple screens per patient to make sure everything is applied correctly. Also requires manual retrieval from clearing house.

Pros

Priced well (monthly) against a number of competitors for what the program normally does. Very fast notes once they are set up and the system is working. Billing from notes is convenient until changes have to be made (like when a patient forgets to tell you they had a change in insurance). Text reminders definitely help keep patients on track.

Cons

Submitted problem tickets take 1-2 days to be addressed.
Frequent slow periods (performance issues).
Clearing house is not as integrated as stated.
Billing system does not handle Automated EOBs (ERAs) well at all, faster to manually enter.
Patient text reminders is an extra monthly charge.
No way to check schedule from phone.

I have had this awful system for 3 years and at least once a week I fly into a fit of rage because of how bad it is. It is a complete time suck. It has cost me nothing but time, money and aggravation. The intake process is dreadful. There is no way you can process a new patient in under 30 minutes combined between the paper forms you will still need ( the patient intake online forms are useless and incomplete) and the 60+ clicks over 10 different screens. This is a base bone program when it comes to documentation and even then it is really bad. Even the billing ( which shouldn't be too difficult) has serious flaws ...you must address each CPT code for every date of service instead of being able to enter several dates for the same code.
I could go on and on like I do with their support but it doesn't matter....Now Chirotouch will switch us over but they still want more $$$$...Ponzi scheme

Pros

I like that it is cloud based. NOTHING else is worth mentioning

Cons

Awful architecture... dozens of steps to do the simplest of things.... your notes will look bad and incomplete unless you spend hours on them.
No patient contact system..no way to download patient list other than by birthday month... completely stupid

Advice to Others

Do not buy into this...and given how Chirotouch has thrown their hands up...I lost faith in them also. Always demo a product and take your time...sales people know how to distract you with features you won't need... New Intakes and SOAPS are 90% of your business ...they need to be easy, quick and complete..something SmartCloud can't do for you

Please do not invest in this software. I've been with them since the very beginning of EHR incentive madness. I purchased in 2010. We've had our ups and downs with the software over the years, but then the company sold out to ChiroTouch. I'm not real sure that SmartCloud has been given a lot of attention since the merge over 1 year ago. Problems have become more frequent, over the last month problems are more common than a regular operation of the software. They tell us they are trying to fix it, they say "we're sorry for your inconvenience". They don't know what this does to an office. I spend more time trying to do notes than I've ever spent in my 16-year career. I've reduced the number of patients I see and I'm losing time away from family. All because they can't get their s+}t together. I pay a monthly fee to watch a blue circle spin and spin.

Advice to Others

Run. Far. Away.

The last year has been hell with Smart Cloud. Previously to the buyout by Chirotouch, Smart cloud had glitches that were never fixed, vital reports that couldn't run, and inaccurate daily reports that were limited in reporting functions. I was hoping the ChiroTouch team was going to be able to fix the mess. But my guess is they will scrap this software altogether. Great job to Future Health for selling this mess before everyone left.

Pros

Pretty interface, Makes pretty notes, BASIC function only. Don't try to run a practice with it though.

Cons

Cloud software, but additional software needs to be on each machine to run.
Slow speeds in high times
Support- Tries really hard (love the actual people) but the platform must stink because NOTHING changes and if it does change, Updates screw something else up. We were running with NO billing for days at stretches.

Advice to Others

You'd be crazy to get into this.

I have been with smart loud since 2014. At the time it was a large outlay to adopt. Costly, but based on the competition prices and the excellent support, I thought it was fair.
The software and its options are extensive, but ironically, don't seem to allow a lot of common Chiropractic options. For instance, I have had to run a concurrent software package to allow me to run "recall lists". Things may have changed, but to date, I still know no way to tell the software to run a list of absentee patients or search for patients that have dropped from care. A second instance is the patient scheduling...how they made a simple patient scheduling system so unyielding and complicated is beyond me. I have never used the smart cloud patient schedule, despite the apparent convenience of having an online schedule available to me due to its flaws.

That being said, it was not perfect but it was still one of the best at the time, and the support was outstanding. Unfortunately, that all changed in mid-2015. Terrible support is being kind at present. It also seems that the once quick response pages turn at glacial speed and make note taking hands on with patient almost impossible.

I have recently decided to drop them after the monthly support was raised this summer. It has been explained to me that because they now have more functions ( haven't seen any) the support needs to increase. I suspect a different reason: namely the initial purchase price has dropped. It seems obvious that they dropped the purchase price and raised the monthly to make up for the loss. I can't condemn the approach, but when I informed them that I PAID fully the original cost and should not be subject to the increase, they were unsympathetic.
This leaves me with the last peeve I have. I am unable to "sell" the software I paid for since the "purchase " price from the company seems to ever decrease.

Overall, what I was left with was an above average software for note taking, an average system for admin and billing and a very sub-par system for scheduling and reports.

I obviously would Not recommend.

Pros

Can be loaded with many documentation shortcuts
Great graphic capabilities
Average billing features
Had (until 2015) Fantastic support

Cons

Poor customer support
Difficult and unnecessarily complicated patient scheduling system
Almost no ability to run patient reports ( except birthdays ) for recalls
Cost of software purchase is no longer an "investment" since they are playing games with initial costs

Advice to Others

I would Not recommend.

I have used this program for years and loved it until they merged with Chirotouch. In the last month, this program has cost me patients and money. I will explain below.
For the last month, they program has been operating very slowly and many of the features do not function at all that we use in our office daily. Their support line said they're "in crisis mode" and had to hire an outside company to try to fix it. It would be nice to have some sort of ETA and to have the other issues I had looked at, but at this time all resources are being utilized for trying to fix the major problems making the entire thing incredibly slow.

The main thing that bothers me about this software is that after you pay the upfront cost, they have a monthly service contract. It was expensive, which I was fine with and was assured it was a price for life thing. Well, the salesman wasn't quite right on that. They apparently bumped that up in July this year. So, just be aware, that they will likely be upping that on you from time to time after purchasing.
The biggest problem I have with this company is their complete inability to get their billing done correctly. Initially, I gave them my autopay info and a month later I got an email stating they didn't have it. So I resubmitted it and they gave me a confirmation email that I would be billed. Long story short, 14 months later, I get an email that my account is past due (I figured it was because my card had recently been stolen/reissued). Nope. They messed up somehow and now I've got a bill for all the months they didn't charge me. Now if it were my business where I messed up like that, I would have written it off. However, they don't see it that way.

Regarding the software, there are several pros and cons. I will lay them out below:
Pros:
It can be fast when it's working properly.
There are macro settings for just about everything you need
It's easy to customize forms
Cons:
There are way too many drop downs resulting in a lot of clicks
The cloud system is very laggy on the poor internet and even on the fast internet you sit and wait for it to respond a lot.
It has to update a lot.
When there is an issue, customer support hold times are very long and not very helpful in the many times I've had to contact them.

Billing is very clunky and slow with too many pages to navigate and have to wait to load (again make sure you have Comcast and the highest speed on a fast computer; it helps, but it still sucks)
Adding staff is a pain because you have to have them do it on their side
You're limited to 2 providers unless you want to pay more for each additional provider, which sucks if you want your massage therapists to be able to do SOAP notes etc.
My biggest complaint software wise is the number of drop downs. If you do any amount of orthopedic testing, it takes forever to enter the information/results. There is a drop down bar for each exam where you select the result, and then have several lines where you have to enter info. You can't reset it to a default negative and just change the positive ones, so it is a huge hassle, plus there are no macro's to put positive results (ie. where the pain was etc...)

Pros

It can be fast when its working properly.
There are macro settings for just about everything you need
Its easy to customize forms

Cons

There are way too many drop downs resulting in a lot of clicks
The cloud system is very laggy on poor internet and even on fast internet you sit and wait for it to respond a lot.
It has to update a lot.
When there is an issue, customer support hold times are very long and not very helpful in the many times I've had to contact them.
They increase their subscription rates

Advice to Others

Stay away from chirotouch. Ironically, someone just messaged me on facebook about my other review and had the same billing issue too. They didn't bill them for over a year and a half and then also tacked on another 2k to transfer the license into a the other providers name because it was "set up incorrectly". Anyways, if you like headaches and financial pain, buy this, if you want to enjoy life, buy anything else but this!

6 years with SmartCloud EHR after demoing Eclipse, Medisoft, and ACOM several times

Value for Money

I had looked at several EHR's for chiropractic billing, documentation, scheduling, and certification for attesting for Meaningful Use (Medicare), and this included demos from Eclipse, Medisoft, and ACOM. Also, I demoed each of those more than once to come to my conclusion that SmartCloud was easier to begin implementation, they are a large company with several chiropractic clients that was going to be in business for several years to come, and they offered "a la carte" purchasing which was important because I wanted to start with the Scheduler and Documentation, and then later move into the Billing modules.

I have successfully attested for Meaningful Use (Stage 2) using the software's help videos, free webinars, and excessive training information. They have training modules for each category that you need to attest to and how to do this using the software.

Also, when there are specific areas of chiropractic such as Meaningful Use changes coming soon, they produce several free webinars to ask questions and provide quick, detailed information on what to do for the changes.

The customer support and "ideas" area are very responsive with any issues that I have come across. And you can vote on specific ideas that users such as myself would like to see added to the software. As an idea accumulates more points, it has priority to be added in future updates.

Overall, you can financially work yourself into the program because you can purchase it in stages, implement it easily using the training videos, and run this from your home, office, and even check on it on vacation (when you should' be checking on it). :)

As a new business owner, I believed Future health would be the best option for my practice. I enjoy the features and functionality that are provided, as well as, the training programs available. When I became a Future Health community member, I received a great deal. I was looking for an affordable yet reliable system. Although the monthly payments are more expensive than a few other options, I consider the price point offered as ideal. One downside to the software is the inability to access the calendar or patient information from any device other than the one the system is placed on. I am a Mac owner, so I had to purchase two Windows based computers to load the system. It would be nice to at least view the calendar and patient information from various platforms. Another downside is the way the patient health history is entered. For example, when choosing to enter a ROS, you must enter each system and problem individually. Overall, I think that Future Health is a great product, however, with some minor changes, I believe it can be an excellent product. I would recommend the software to those that are looking for an affordable Windows based software.

I already have recommended it to several colleagues. Only one did not have it already. It is simple it has all the bells and whistles that simplistically design a completed professional report with graphics.
Our rep was clearly a master of the program and the workings of it. Additionally he readily changed his schedule and was right there during a crunch time for us to get us up and running and being able to allow us to get a promotional discount. In a moment of frustration ironically a couple of office members reached out to him. Despite his travels he made sure he responded promptly stating he would provide the answers upon his arrival and he delivered.

Likes Least

The training being remote and having to go through the complete training. It has delayed us getting started.
Ideally having someone in for a half or whole day after a bit of independent study and saying here this is everything 1,2,3. Any decent practitioner can go back with staff and review videos. That has been tiring, tedious and frustrating.
As well having last year converted from PC to MAC and now having to go back was a waste of money for the computer expense. As well as the usual glitches have been occurring with PC. It almost had this office decline the product.

Recommendations

It has everything simplistically outlined that denotes a professional report, verbiage, graphics and thoroughly documented content and ability to customize easily. The ease is contrary to our last system and we are grateful.

I think Future Health is extremely user-friendly. It's visually pleasing to the eye, which counts for a lot when you have to spend most of your time looking at the system to do notes, scheduling, or billing. I like the way the SOAP notes are detail-oriented and visually set up when printed. They definitely help with collections from PI and WC cases. I have multiple MDs, nurses, and PAs that I regularly correspond with, and most of them have commented on the ease of reading and the detail in my notes, reports, etc.

The scheduling side of Future Health could have a few more bells and whistles. There isn't a great way to print off patient appointments for that day.

Recommendations

If you really want an all-inclusive EHR system, Future Health is where it's at. Remember you will be looking at this system all day, make sure it's something that's easy on the eyes and easy to navigate. I've used other competitors' systems in the past, and this one is by far the easiest to find things on and the easiest to use.
