I like the ease and simplicity of the application process.

The system hold the position description information but does not track edits or revisions to the position description for auditing and compliance purposes. Our solution was to continue using a separate system for position management.

Recommendations

Ask specific questions regarding the functionality that you need. Evaluate your process and ask for a demonstration of how the process works to evaluate whether the system will meet your needs.

The product is amongst the easiest to use in the market and immediately adds value by simplifying the performance management process. Because of ease of use, it promotes a high adoption rate and users satisfaction. The vendor has been very responsive is resolving minor issues during the program's launch and has continued to provide excellent product support.

Recommendations

Determine if the program will add value or is simply a must-do compliance system integral to other non-HR ERP systems. Will the program require significant training before launch? Will the product create value for your company and all users? Will it achieve high adoption and satisfaction rates from all users?

Very simple for users to use.

Manager's comments box does not identify who the manager was who completed the review like the 360 comments box contains the reviewers email address.

No check box to confirm the meeting has been completed. A number of performance reviews were displaying self assessor and manager assessments 100% complete, however the manager hadn't actually sat down with the employee and held the meeting with them.

Senior management are very frustrated that they can't see the content of the performance reviews for the subordinates under their direct reports. e.g. Store Supervisor can see their direct reports who are Store Managers, but they want to be able to see the performance review content for Department Managers underneath the Store Manager.

Store Managers want to be able to see their whole store team on the Analysis tab rather than only employees with the same role type.

Recommendations

It is really simple to use which is fantastic for the retail industry where employees are not always highly educated or have highly competent computer skills to use complex systems

Too much flexibility in implementation. We were always hearing "whatever you want", and not given a lot of guidance how one product (Learning) would affect another (Applicant Tracking).

Recommendations

If purchasing the suite, or if you have intentions of implementing all, ask questions about how implementation of one will affect others. And of course, if you are coming out of the dark ages in technology, everything will be different - it may be easier, but it will be different.

It's pretty easy to use and there are a lot of options. Setting up classes and assigning them to people is pretty simple. Users usually don't need training in order to understand how to use the system.

If someone misses a class (session), the Event goes into the Archived folder and is no longer on the Active tab so the employee doesn't think he/she still needs to take it.

Recommendations

Make a list of your business needs and then see how well the system can meet those needs.

Their on-site trainer that they sent to us for our initial training was fabulous.

I do not think that the developers have spent much time in a training department understanding how courses are set up in reality. Very little makes common sense, and we are constantly trying to figure out how to make courses and training programs work within the constraints of this system. This system lacks real flexibility.

Recommendations

I would look at lots of software providers and ask about how it would work specifically with how your training is currently organized.

I really like all the functionality that comes with this product as well as all the support you receive during and after implementation. Cornerstone cares about your success and offers a lot of resources to facilitate it.

The system is not as intuitive as expected. It takes a lot of trial and error as well as training time to understand all the functionality and how to use it. There are a few things about the system that was expected but was not provided. This has mostly been the case with the Applicant Tracking System module. However, the system is set up to be able to function for lots of different companies that have a lot of different situations.

Recommendations

If planning on using the Single Sign On functionality you should start working on the project first. The Single Sign On set our implementations date back by a few months which wasn't ideal.

The product is vast and ever-growing, which is good for someone like myself who can really use all the tools. I also like that Cornerstone only does the one thing. They are not part of an HRIS solution. They have a great client support site too. They are very proactive about informing administrators about upcoming changes. They also have an annual meeting for customers (Cornerstone Convergence) which is a great resource.

I have zero issues with Cornerstone as a vendor. I think they do a great job. The only thing I dislike about the product is my inability to add custom fields to custom reports....but I bet they fix that with their upcoming analytics product.

Recommendations

I think the number one thing evaluators have to consider when choosing an LMS is their own availability to internal support resources. You have to ask yourself if you are willing to hire a full time LMS Administrator, and/ or a full time content person. LMS Administration is a full time job, and has a year-long learning curve. If you are not willing to dedicate a resource to this, then a full-featured LMS like Cornerstone is probably not appropriate.

The system is very versatile. It's functionality is endless and will most likely be able to transform into whatever you are needing it to be.

Cornerstone is really a great software. It is something that fits almost any situation you throw at it and Cornerstone is helpful when they are needed. It has been a pleasure working with in the system.

It is user-friendly and easy to use for our employees. It works well for a smaller company (we have about 50 users currently) and seems to meet our performance management needs so far.

Customer service can sometimes be tough to go through if you are in the U.S., as they are located in Australia. I do wish there were more prompts and directions for employees on how exactly to set up goals, ratings, and development plans. We had to develop our own training presentation to along with the system which works fine, but it would be better if that information could be reinforced while the employees go in to the system to enter their information.

Recommendations

It depends on the size of your company and the familiarity your employees have with performance reviews. The system is easy to use, but if employees are not familiar with how to set up performance reviews, they may need additional guidance.

I chose this software because I felt that it best illustrated what we were looking for in a performance management application. We wanted to be able to rate employees on performance in their current role, as well as be able to create goals to help them grow and develop. It is visual and metric based, so it satisfies both preferences. As part of the implementation, they provide you with a consultant - someone who has implemented and used the program before. This has been a huge benefit/resource for me during the process.

We have only just started implementing so I have not been able to find something that I don't like. It is almost completely open to customization, so making choices down to the color of the grid can seem unimportant.

Recommendations

There are so many different performance/talent management software programs out there. Demoing is so important to see how they really work and what works best for your organization. I found Cornerstone OnDemand before coming to Software Advice, but the fact that they also recommended it to me helped support my decision that it was the best option for my organization.

There are frequent issues with end users losing their data even after saving. A browser issues perhaps? Sometimes it's hard to connect with the support team.

The platform is mature and has all of the functionality that employers need to evaluate and develop staff. It's the most sophisticated product in its space. Other products that we have looked at as an alternative could not deliver the same functionality.

Customer support is very weak. We were unable to access the platform reliably. CSB did not appear to have the resources or will to correct the problem. In some cases, it would take multiple tries over a 1-2 hour period to access the system. It was never solved before our subscription expired.

Before May 2014, calls to the US help desk were answered with the response "no one is available to take your call, please call again or log a case". I complained to the point that they implemented a voicemail system.

Documentation on how to use the product is very weak. It requires a team of people who can dedicate substantial time learning how to use the product and developing internal documentation. It requires a dedicated help desk.

Implementation was slapdash. The trial period data was not purged from the system, and there was no evidence that the team that configured the system performed quality control on their work.

Recommendations

Have a dedicated team who will use the product extensively in the trial phase so that product documentation is well-established before contracting for a subscription. The support may be much higher during the testing phase because the company is sales-driven. They have every incentive to respond before the contract is written.

It would be helpful as a manager to be able to set/amend goals for all employees downstream on the organizational chart (limits this access to direct reports only).

Recommendations

Check out the ability to do 360 level reviews. Easy and informative. Also, the review looks at personal and organizational level goals like teamwork and how well the employee lives and exhibits our corporate culture.

Cornerstone CSB has been a paramount part of the overhaul we are doing of our HR process. We purchased the platform 8 months ago, and have done a review cycle already with great success. The best thing I can say about Cornerstone CSB is the quality of the support service. They have been available to answer questions and help me configure and customize the system to my needs. I am an HR director, but the CEO and executive team in general were aware that reviews needed to be made functional in order to help increase revenue and hold on to good employees.
